Position Summary:
The General Maintenance employee will perform skilled and semi-skilled work in a variety of building maintenance trades in the upkeep of the school districts buildings and equipment.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications noted below are required to enable the employee to perform the essential duties/responsibilities of this position.
Successful candidates at minimum will have:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D. related job experience Associates Degree preferred
- Minimum of three years experience in the assigned trade
- Able to read plans and schematics associated with the trade
- Working knowledge of maintenance and custodial operations
- Good communication skills; comprehends and efficiently follows instructions/directions
- Must be able to work with power equipment
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Conducting routine inspection of buildings grounds and equipment
- Performing preventive maintenance
- Handing basic repairs and maintenance such as door and lock repair window repair ceiling tile replacement floor repair locksmith carpentry plastering and assembly repair and installation of furniture and education equipment
- Coordinate repairs with outside contractors
- Documents work performed and reports issues to direct supervisor
- Assumes responsibility for all equipment vehicles and tools
- Assume other reasonable and equitable job-related duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor
PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Valid Drivers License
- Ability to safely operate district vehicles
- Ability to function effectively in adverse weather conditions
- Ability to communicate and work with the public and to maintain an effective working relationship with auxiliary personnel teachers patrons and all school administrators
- Good knowledge of tools materials and methods to safely perform the work required
- Ability to compute simple mathematics
- Ability to prioritize work as well as meet schedules and timelines
- Ability to work independently or as part of a small group on larger projects
- Respond to emergency situations during and after regular work hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns

- This position will subject the employee to work environments that have exposure to weather or interiors with extremes of heat and/or cold wet and/or humid conditions high noise levels and various work-related hazards
- Ability to work in tight areas including pipe chases and tunnels
- Ability to work in high places using ladders and scaffolding
- Ability to work in potentially dangerous situations including gas equipment and electrical equipment
