About our partnership:

The Medicare Mental Health Centres formerly Head to Health are an important part of the Australias reformed mental health and wellbeing system.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre is supported by funding from North Brisbane Primary Health Network through the Australian Governments PHN Medicare Mental Health Centre will provide the community with a free safe and welcoming space to access mental health advice supports and services. Walk-ins will be welcomed services are confidential and no appointment or referral will be required.

About the service:

The service is funded by the Australian Government to provide a streamlined approach to support better mental health and social wellbeing across the service is tailored to the needs of the community in and provides a combination of peer-led recovery and clinical support.

The Medicare Mental Health Centre provides a safe welcoming and supportive environment for people experiencing psychological distress providing an alternative to presenting to the Emergency Department and allowing them to access support from trained mental health professionals within their community outside a clinical setting.

Role Overview:

The Senior Mental Health Clinician will provide focused psychological strategies tailored to meet the individual needs of people accessing the service within a community based mental health care setting. As well as working with relevant service systems to respond appropriately to their mental health and developmental addition the Senior Mental Health Clinician would be responsible for providing interventions for those with more complex problems and providing clinical support and direction to other clinical staff and students at the Medicare Mental Health Centre.

  • Provide comprehensive assessment brief and ongoing interventions risk management and care planning
  • Work collaboratively across health service networks to plan and coordinate individualised psychosocial interventions to meet the needs of people with mental health issues
  • Provide and monitor support to clinicians regarding clinical work including supervision access to secondary consultation and professional development activities

Demonstrated commitment to clinical supervision education training ongoing professional development and student clinical placements

  • Work cooperatively and effectively through active participation within the multidisciplinary mental health team the profession specific network and with consumers families/carers and extended agencies
  • Potential for after-hours work upon negotiation

Requirements:

  • Must have one of the following: General AHPRA registration as a Psychologist Clinical Psychologist Mental Health Occupational Therapist OR Mental Health Nurse OR AASW registration as a Social Worker
  • Demonstrated a comprehensive level of knowledge expertise and skill; specifically Brief Intervention Models of Care Commitment to professional development and willingness to participate in a continuous learning environment
  • Well-developed judgment and evaluation skills demonstrating a working understanding assessment and care planning
  • Sound understanding of the public non-government and private mental health systems and programs and associated non-mental health programs in a community setting
  • Ideally demonstrated experience in providing alcohol and other drugs (AOD) counselling and support
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills showing an ability and sensitivity to work with people who have or are at risk of developing a mental illness
  • Proven ability to work creatively collaboratively and effectively as a member of a team
  • Demonstrated skills in organisation and time-management including the ability to work under pressure and balance multiple tasks
  • Excellent verbal communication and writing skills
  • Must be eligible to apply/currently hold a Blue Card
  • Must hold/be willing to apply for NDIS worker screening clearance
