Job Summary:

The Trial Division is seeking an experienced prosecutor (7 years) to serve as Deputy Bureau Chief General Crimes Bureau. This is a senior leadership position requiring exceptional investigative acumen substantial felony trial experience and demonstrated supervisory and mentoring ability. Reporting to the Bureau Chief the Deputy Bureau Chief assists in leading the Bureaus prosecutorial investigative training and administrative functions. The successful candidate will model excellence in advocacy integrity in decision-making and a collaborative leadership style that strengthens the Bureaus culture.
Job Responsibilities:
Investigative & Trial Leadership
Provide strategic oversight of investigations from intake through disposition ensuring thorough ethical and legally sound case development.
Guide attorneys in evidence assessment witness preparation motion practice and trial strategy.
Personally handle complex and high-profile investigations and trials as needed.
Review charging decisions and advise on legal sufficiency and evidentiary issues.
Collaborate with law enforcement agencies and investigative partners to strengthen case development.
Provide oversight and guidance to assistant district attorneys regarding compliance with New York Criminal Procedure Law 245 and other discovery obligations.
Possess significant jury trial experience and the ability to independently prosecute complex cases through verdict while mentoring junior attorneys in trial preparation litigation strategy and courtroom advocacy.
Supervision & Case Management
Oversee the assignment and progression of cases within the Bureau.
Monitor case readiness trial preparation and compliance with discovery and legal obligations.
Conduct case conferences and strategic reviews.
Be on-call on a rotating basis for after-hours case assessments and critical incident response.
Mentorship Teaching & Professional Development.
Mentor and train junior and mid-level Assistant District Attorneys in investigation litigation courtroom presentation and professional judgment.
Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages growth accountability and resilience.
Serve as faculty for the Offices Continuing Legal Education (CLE) programs including:
Orientation Training
Grand Jury Practice
Felony and Misdemeanor Trial Advocacy
Provide constructive feedback and performance coaching with patience professionalism and emotional intelligence.
Administrative & Operational Leadership
Assist in the day-to-day management of Bureau operations including staffing workload distribution attendance oversight and performance management.
Prepare case status statistical and performance reports as required.
Support implementation of Office policies procedures and strategic initiatives.
Participate in leadership meetings and inter-agency conferences.
Contribute to operational efficiency and continuous improvement efforts.
Maintain and review bureau statistics and operational reports utilizing spreadsheets and data tracking tools to monitor case flow workload distribution and performance metrics.

Job Qualifications:
Juris Doctor degree.
Minimum 7 years of significant felony trial experience including substantial jury trial practice.
Minimum of five (5) qualifying matters which must include at least three (3) felony trials served as First Chair. The additional two qualifying matters could be major investigations or trials as first chair.
Strong investigative background with working knowledge of investigative methods and case development strategies.
Proven ability to manage complex legal issues from inception through trial or resolution.
Excellent written and oral advocacy skills.
Strong organizational and administrative capabilities.
Excellent interpersonal skills and leadership presence.
Demonstrated patience professionalism and the ability to teach and develop others.
Ability to motivate organize and direct attorneys and professional staff.
Sound judgment discretion and high ethical standards.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word Outlook and Excel.
New York State residency and U.S. citizenship required as of the first day of employment.
