POSITION PURPOSE:
The City of Birmingham (EOE) is seeking energetic organized and dependable applicants for the position of Police Dispatcher. Under the supervision of the Commander the Dispatcher dispatches police fire and emergency medical units; answers incoming 911 lines other emergency calls and police non-emergency lines. Operates computer-aided dispatch equipment and monitors and coordinates police fire emergency medical unit activity and assignments via radio frequencies.
FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

- Provide citizens with quick efficient and courteous service in person and by telephone.
- Responsible for maintaining daily shift reports and 911 logs.
- Responsible for operation of CLEMIS and the Law Enforcement Information Network (LEIN).
- Additional related responsibilities as assigned.
NECESSARY SKILLS:
- Knowledge of current office software including Microsoft Office applications and the ability and interest to quickly learn and apply new tools and technologies.
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and utilize problem-solving skills to assist members of the public and other employees.
- Ability to communicate and collaborate with a diverse range of individuals in carrying out assigned duties with a professional demeanor and effective customer service and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of CLEMIS records management warrant validation and entry/removal through LEIN and general police RMS preferred.
- Attention to detail and the ability to deal tactfully with a variety of individuals in diverse and stressful situations.
- Must possess the ability to work under pressure and exercise good judgment and sound decision-making in emergency situations.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- High school diploma or its equivalent required
- Professional Dispatch experience knowledge of law enforcement fire and medical terminology/procedures preferred.
