The Team:
The Conversion Engineering team sits at the intersection of product performance and business growth at Upstart. We are responsible for optimizing how borrowers move through the application journeyfrom rate check to fundingdirectly impacting Conversion Rate one of the companys most important operating metrics and a key driver of revenue.
As a Senior Software Engineer on the Conversion Engineering team you will play a critical role in building and evolving the core borrower experiences that drive 80% of company revenue. Youll work on highly visible user-facing systems such as the unified rate page and funding flows across product lines helping to shape both the technical direction and execution of key initiatives.
Our team builds and iterates on high-impact experiences while partnering closely with Product Design and Machine Learning to launch new product flows ship model upgrades and continuously test and personalize borrower journeys. We are entering a critical phase of platform consolidationunifying pricing systems across products and building a shared funding form architecturewhile continuing to move quickly on new feature development. This is a high-impact team with ambitious goals and significant headcount growth planned.
How youll make an impact
- Lead end-to-end delivery of critical user-facing features that improve loan application and rate check experiencesdirectly driving improvements in conversion and funding form submission metrics.
- Rapidly iterate on the new unified rate page by expanding product coverage launching new features and improving performance and usability.
- Contribute to the backend consolidation of pricing logic into a unified system improving maintainability consistency and speed of experimentation across products.
- Help define and build the next-generation platformized funding form that supports multiple products contributing to architectural direction and long-term scalability.
- Strengthen engineering excellence by improving system performance reliability and on-call health for the features you build and own.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Computer Science Engineering or Mathematics or a related field (or its equivalent) 4 years of experience
- Experience delivering end-to-end features across frontend and backend systems including APIs and microservices.
- Strong frontend development experience building customer-facing web applications with a focus on performance usability and experimentation.
- Demonstrated end-to-end ownership of multi-month initiatives from technical design through launch and iteration.
- Experience working in cross-functional environments with Product Design and other engineering teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience improving conversion funnels or other high-scale metrics-driven user journeys through experimentation (e.g. A/B testing personalization).
- Background in consolidating or platformizing systems (e.g. unifying pricing logic or shared frontend architectures across multiple products).
- Experience operating in a microservices-based architecture and contributing to architectural direction.
- Track record of improving engineering processes mentoring teammates and raising the bar on technical excellence.
- Experience in fintech or other highly regulated high-availability environments.
Position location This role is available in the following locations: Remote
Travel requirements As a digital first company the majority of your work can be accomplished remotely. The majority of our employees can live and work anywhere in the U.S but are encouraged to to still spend high quality time in-person collaborating via regular onsites. The in-person sessions cadence varies depending on the team and role; most teams meet once or twice per quarter for 2-4 consecutive days at a time.

At Upstart your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated base salary for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will depend on your geographic locationwith our digital first philosophy Upstart uses compensation regions that vary depending on location. Individual pay is also determined by job-related skills experience and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range for your preferred location during the hiring process.
