Job Summary
The Research Scholar serves as a senior academic specialist responsible for conducting advanced research producing scholarly publications and delivering public lectures related to Greek and Roman art. This role contributes to gallery installations exhibition development acquisitions research and institutional scholarship while representing the department within the broader academic and museum communities.
The position is designed to support focused research projects aligned with departmental collections and programming. Areas of expertise may include ancient jewelry and gems Roman pottery ancient religion ancient Cyprus or related fields within Classical art and archaeology. This is a term-based appointment with a three-year duration.
Primary Responsibilities & Duties

Conduct original research and publish scholarly work related to the collection

Participate in gallery installations and exhibitions including writing interpretive labels and content
-
Research potential acquisitions and contribute scholarly analysis
-
Respond to public inquiries and assist visiting scholars
-
Contribute to scholarship on art historical theory and museum practices as they relate to objects in the collection and their historical contexts
-
Present scholarly lectures and public programs tailored to diverse audiences
-
Represent the department to supporters colleagues and scholars nationally and internationally
-
Support institutional records management guidelines and departmental procedures
-
Perform additional related duties as assigned
Requirements & Qualifications
-
Ph.D. in Classical Art Classical Archaeology or a closely related field required
-
Ten (10) years of demonstrated experience conducting original research on objects from regions and cultures represented in Greek and Roman collections
-
Strong expertise in at least one specialized area such as ancient jewelry and gems Roman pottery ancient religion ancient Cyprus or related disciplines
-
Proficiency in ancient Greek and/or Latin preferred

Ability to maintain precise and accurate research and institutional records
-
Strong computer proficiency
-
Ability to collaborate effectively with departmental staff cross-functional teams and the international academic community
-
Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to engage both scholarly and general audiences
