Job Summary

At Perkins&Wills London studio we are seeking a talented Architectural Assistant (Part 2).

As a Part 1 Architectural Assistant (RIBA-recognised undergraduate degree in architecture or international equivalent) you contribute directly to the creative process - bringing energy curiosity and care to every stage of a project. You play a valuable role in developing early ideas and supporting the detailed delivery of purposeful architecture.

You work closely with a collaborative team building your technical foundation developing your design voice and learning how architecture contributes to lasting impact - rooted in our Living Design philosophy which places people place and the planet at the centre of every decision.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Creative Thinking

  • Contribute to the development of design concepts and narratives with increasing independence.
  • Support and begin to lead early-stage design studies and spatial strategies.
  • Use drawing modelling and visual tools to test and express intent with more confidence.
  • Participate actively in reviews and critiques - contributing ideas and guiding junior peers.
  • Help develop and communicate integrated design responses.

Project Delivery and Technical Coordination

  • Prepare and coordinate architectural drawings and documents with increasing responsibility.
  • Support consultant coordination with greater autonomy - translating design into delivery.
  • Engage with regulations performance and sustainability metrics as part of project development.
  • Contribute to fieldwork surveys and site visits with greater confidence and initiative.
  • Take responsibility for the accuracy clarity and completeness of your work.

Business Development and Studio Representation

  • Contribute actively to competitions and proposals through clear creative visual material and design thinking.
  • Assist with the preparation of presentations and documents for client-facing opportunities.
  • Represent the studios values with confidence in internal and external design discussions.

Studio Culture and Team Contribution

  • Take responsibility for delivering assigned workstreams and supporting junior colleagues.
  • Show initiative in supporting the wider project team and design reviews.
  • Engage proactively with studio culture and contribute to learning forums mentoring or research initiatives.
  • Bring a collaborative mindset and accountability to group work and project progress.

Core Capabilities:

      • Contributes confidently to BIM workflows supporting coordinated design development.
      • Applies understanding of building regulations and life safety to inform design decisions.
      • Conducts thoughtful site analysis translating context into design insight.
      • Develops materiality and experience through modelling sketching and prototyping.
      • Leads or co-leads fieldwork and surveys with accuracy and care.
      • Investigates construction systems and materials with a sustainability-first mindset.
      • Prepares technical details and supports documentation with increasing independence.
      • Communicates design intent clearly across visual verbal and written formats.

      Tools and Technologies

      • Revit used independently to model coordinate and support technical delivery.
      • Rhino and Grasshopper for generative exploration and performance-based studies.
      • Adobe Creative Suite for refined high-quality visual communication.
      • Enscape and V-Ray for immersive and iterative design visualization.
      • Microsoft Office for team coordination and reporting.
      • 3D printing laser cutting and physical modelling for iterative development and communication.
      • Growing use of environmental analysis tools (e.g. Ladybug Climate Studio) to inform design decisions.

      Growth and Development Goals

      • Actively logging PEDR or equivalent toward Part 3.
      • Deepening fluency in design development project delivery and sustainable strategies.
      • Supporting and mentoring more junior team members.
      • Attends targeted CPD sessions and builds technical and regulatory fluency through project exposure and internal mentoring.
      • Building a clear professional pathway toward registration and project leadership.
