TheBroad Institute of MIT & Harvardis seeking an outstanding and innovative Senior Computational Scientist to join theMethods Development Lab.
The Senior Computational Scientist is responsible for driving the computational development of novel -omic technologies generated at the Methods Development Lab. The Senior Computational Scientist will lead computational efforts of collaborative projects with Broad Programs and Platforms with an emphasis on Cell Circuits the Klarman Cell Observatory Gene Regulation Observatory Immunology Program Data Sciences Platform and Genetic Perturbation addition the Senior Computational Scientist will keep current with the state of the field and interests/needs of Broad researchers and work with the Methods Development Lab Group Leader to conceptualize prioritize and then develop new methods. The Senior Computational Scientist will work closely with Genomics Platform R&D Automation LIMS production teams and Data Sciences Platform to translate novel methods into production scale processes to make them available to the community.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Design and drive novel technology development projects within specific areas as agreed upon with the MDL Group Leader.
- Manage computational biologists working on MDL projects.
- Work closely with GP and DSP computational biologists/scientists to create analytic methods for novel technologies and novel resources for the community.
- Help evaluate new -omic technologies to determine utility impact fit with Genomics Platforms capabilities and interests.
- Assists and actively participates in obtaining federal philanthropic institutional or industrial funding opportunities for technology development.
- Publish novel methods in collaboration with Broad scientists.
- Seek intellectual property protection for inventions that are conceived of or developed while a member of the MDL.
- Provides input on strategic guidance with the Group Leader
- In coordination with the Group Leader set priorities and goals on the development of new methods timeline and budget.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Must be passionate and deeply committed to the mission of the Methods Development Lab and the entire Broad.
- Must be forward-thinking and innovative with a nimble scientific/technical mind able to rapidly develop and execute on creative solutions.
- Must be skilled at supervising teams of researchers providing both scientific mentorship and direction.
- Must be proficient in setting goals priorities and budgets to drive efficient project execution.
- Must have deep computational biology experience.
- Must have excellent programming skills data analysis skills and a mastery of best software practices.
- Strong individual contributor with the ability to quickly pivot and collaborate with key stakeholders and senior leadership
- PhD degree in Computational Biology or related field with 5 years of experience
