Maintenance Technician I

Position Purpose: 

The Maintenance Technician I performs routine maintenance repair and preventive maintenance activities on water and wastewater treatment plant equipment facilities and systems to ensure safe efficient and compliant operations.

Primary Duties/Responsibilities: 

• Perform preventive maintenance on pumps motors valves blowers and other mechanical equipment.
• Conduct routine inspections of plant equipment and facilities to identify maintenance needs.
• Repair and replace defective parts components and equipment.
• Maintain and repair electrical systems including motors control panels and lighting.
• Perform basic plumbing repairs and installations.
• Lubricate equipment and machinery according to maintenance schedules.
• Assist with emergency repairs and respond to after-hours callouts as needed.
• Maintain accurate maintenance logs and work order documentation.
• Ensure compliance with safety regulations and plant standard operating procedures.
• Perform grounds maintenance including mowing trimming and general housekeeping.
• Assist senior maintenance staff with complex repairs and projects.
• Operate plant equipment as needed during maintenance activities.

Work Environment:

• Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions.
• Ability to work around wastewater chemicals and odors.
• Work performed primarily at wastewater treatment plant facility.
• Exposure to wastewater chemicals noise and varying weather conditions.
• May require rotating shifts weekends holidays and on-call duty.
• Personal protective equipment (PPE) required.

Qualifications :

Education/Experience/Background: 

• High School Diploma/GED is required.
• 1-2 years of maintenance experience in industrial municipal or wastewater treatment setting preferred.
• Entry-level candidates with relevant training will be considered.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

• Basic knowledge of mechanical electrical and plumbing systems.
• Ability to use hand and power tools safely and effectively.
• Ability to read and interpret technical manuals blueprints and schematics.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Good communication skills both written and verbal.
• Proficiency with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) preferred.

Required Certification/Licenses/Training: 

• Technical/vocational training in industrial maintenance preferred.
• Valid drivers license required.
• Wastewater treatment plant operator certification (or ability to obtain within specified timeframe) may be required.
• OSHA safety certifications preferred.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
• Ability to work in confined spaces.
• Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
• Ability to stand walk bend and kneel for extended periods.

Additional Information :

Pay Range: $27.00 to $32.00 per hour.
