Registered Nurse - Critical Care:
Sunnybrook is home to the first and largest trauma centre in Canada and the countrys largest adult burn Centre. Ontarios most seriously injured patients are rushed to Sunnybrook by air and land ambulance from across the province. We provide highly specialized care toone in three trauma patients in Ontario totalling about 2000 critically injured patients each year the highest number in Canada.
Named in honour of philanthropist and Canadian entrepreneur Mr. Seymour Schulich the Schulich Heart Centre at Sunnybrook stands as one of Canadas leading cardiac care centres with an international reputation as a leading-edge provider for the prevention treatment and care of heart disease.
Sunnybrook Health is the Regional Stroke Centre for the North & East GTA Stroke Network and provides comprehensive stroke hyperacute and acute stroke services for the region and province. The Neurovascular Unit (NVU) is an integrated critical care unit that provides expert stroke and neurovascular services.
For Registered Nurses who are not critical care certified but interested in joining our critical care team we offer educational opportunities for you to complete aCritical Care Nursing Program with an accredited institution!
Exciting Opportunities In The Following Care Units:
Critical Care Resource Team:Group of RNs who provide flexible support across intensive care units (ICUs)
Ross Tilly Burn Centre(RTBC):tertiary care for burn injury care patients
Critical Care Unit (CrCU):for trauma neurosurgery orthopaedics medical and/or surgical problems
Cardiovascular Unit (CVICU):for cardiac surgery vascular surgery or after treatment for hear attack
D4ICU:for medical surgery or stroke care
B5ICU:for orthopaedics plastics neurosurgery and trauma patients
Cardiac Cath Lab:for cardiac and vascular procedural care (coronary arrhythmia structural heart and vascular)
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU):cardiovascular patients that require intensive care
Qualifications/Skills
- Current registration with the Ontario College of Nurses
- Current BCLS certificate
- Current Fit Mask Testing
- Baccalaureate degree in Nursing preferred
- Minimum 1 year experience with patients in Acute Care setting preferred.
- Consideration may also be given to those who completed their nursing consolidation on a Critical Care unit
- Successful completion of the ICU review quiz
- Preference will be given to applicants who demonstrated a commitment to continuing education within the past 2 years with emphasis placed on courses/conferences related to: advanced acute care nursing concepts and skills such as physical assessment Coronary Care 1 & 2.
- Demonstrated commitment to organizational initiatives such as best practices participation in nursing council unit committees and quality improvement projects
- Demonstrated effective ability in: interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication skills; organization skills; priority setting skills; problem solving; decision making; facilitating team work; conflict resolution
- Demonstrated ability to integrate and apply critical thinking skills to patient care
- Demonstrated ability to handle stressful environments in a positive manner
- Demonstrated ability to function independently and as a part of the multidisciplinary team
