About Us

Formerly known as HEAnet and EduCampus we have been supporting Irelands academic and research community since 1983. We are now proud to come together as one unified organisation. Our new name Asiera captures what drives us every day Advancing Services for Irish Education Research and Academia.

Every day our national education and research network supports more than 1.3 million students and researchers and over 175000 staff across Irelands schools ETBs and higher education institutions more than 1.5 million people in addition we provide mission-critical management information systems to over 140000 students and 20000 staff across Irelands universities technological universities institutes of technology and colleges.

In Asiera we are building an end-to-end digital ecosystem for Irish education one that connects enables and empowers learners and institutions to thrive in an increasingly digital world.

What the intern does

The internship will run during May/June 2026 and will involve at least 125 hours of student work. Exact weeks and dates will be agreed with the student before work commences.

Internships can be hybrid or fully remote depending on what suits the student. You should additionally be able to demonstrate your ability to work independently.

Please note you will need to provide your own laptop for the duration of the internship.

As part of your internship you will complete one or both of the following projects:

Horizon Scan / Literature Review in Data Stewardship
Review emerging standards competencies technologies and policy developments in data stewardship across Europe and internationally. Outputs may include a summary report thematic analysis and recommendations that inform Sonraís future programming training and advocacy.

Compilation of Job Descriptions for Data Stewardship Roles
Collect compare and categorise data stewardship job descriptions across European research institutions. Deliverables may include a dataset of job descriptions role taxonomy and insights into required skills responsibilities and gaps in workforce development.

Additional topics which could be incorporated include:

• Emerging Standards and Frameworks for Data Stewardship
• Skills and Competencies for Data Stewards
• Ethical and Legal Dimensions of Data Stewardship
• Automation and AI in Data Stewardship

As part of the internship your first task will be to complete a Project Plan based on your interest in data stewardship and your individual skills and to complete a Data Management Plan both to be agreed with our Research Engagement Officer here in Asiera.

• Communication and Reporting: Produce clear well structured written outputs such as reports datasets summaries and recommendations for Sonraís future work.
• Professional and Sector Awareness: Develop an understanding of the data stewardship profession including career pathways required competencies and institutional expectations.
