Job Summary
Newburyport Public Schools is seeking qualified per diem Registered Nurses with at least 1 year of Pediatric or relevant experience. We seek a motivated nurse with good judgment decision making and communication skills. Candidates must understand that the focus of this role is field trip and overnight trip nursing but may include other in-district per diem opportunities. The Field Trip Nurse provides professional nursing care and oversight for students during school-sponsored off-campus activities. This role ranges from managing routine daily medications or first aid on a day trip to providing 24-hour medical supervision during multi-day overnight excursions. The primary goal is to ensure the safety health and inclusion of all students in an environment outside the traditional Field Trip Nurse Responsibilities1. Clinical Care & Medication ManagementMedication Administration: Safely transport and administer scheduled and as needed (PRN) medications according to district policy and physician Response: Act as the first responder for any injuries or acute illnesses (e.g. allergic reactions asthma attacks seizures or physical injuries).Specialized Care: Manage students with complex needs including G-tube feedings catheterization or continuous glucose monitoring (CGM).2. Day or Overnight Supervision (Single or Multi-day Trips)Provide 24-hour on-call availability for students and staff for the duration of the in student outings to support the health needs of students with special health care scheduled medication and as needed medications based on clinical assessment medical directives and parental and monitor student health and wellness regarding sleep hydration and mental health in a high-stimulation students for injury. Provide first aid as indicated.3. Communication & DocumentationMaintain a detailed log of all nursing interventions and medications effectively with teachers chaperones and parents regarding any health concerns or with local emergency services at the trip destination if a higher level of care is Work EnvironmentDay Trips: Varied some outside of school Trips: 25 days; accommodations (hotel or cabins) provided by the population may be as young as preschool through grade 12 with potential for work with post graduate students (up to age 22).Outings may include historic sites museums other educational settings theaters outdoor settings adventure based outings etc.
