Head of BI & Data

As a leading 3rd Party Logistics Provider BI & data analytics is a critical part of our group strategy. We are seeking a visionary and experienced leader to join our team as Head of BI & Data.

The Head of BI & Data is a senior-level role responsible for overseeing all aspects of business intelligence (BI) and data management within the organization. This includes developing and executing data strategies managing data analytics and reporting and ensuring the effective use of data to support business objectives. The role involves providing leadership vision and direction for the BI and data teams to ensure the delivery of high-quality data insights and solutions. Additionally this role will focus on integrating AI Machine Learning (ML) advanced analytics and legacy rationalisation to enhance data-driven decision-making

Key Responsibilities of the Head of BI and Data:

Leadership and Strategy

• Develop and execute a comprehensive BI & data strategy aligned with the companys overall vision and goals.
• Manage all BI & data related budgets and timelines.
• Act as the primary point of contact for BI & data-related matters with senior stakeholders.
• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the BI and data organization developing and implementing data strategies policies and procedures.
• Develop and maintain a strong AI/ML roadmap.
• Provide strategic direction and leadership for the BI & data organisation.
• Foster a culture of data-driven decision-making collaboration and continuous improvement within the team.

Team Leadership

• Lead and manage a team of data analysts BI developers data engineers and data scientists providing coaching mentoring and performance management.
• Build mentor and motivate a highly skilled team fostering a culture of continuous improvement collaboration and innovation.
• Provide guidance mentorship and support to ensure the team operates effectively and efficiently.
• Conduct performance reviews set goals and facilitate professional development for team members.

Data Strategy and Governance 

• Collaborate closely with the Architecture team to develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with the companys overall vision and goals.
• Establish and maintain data governance frameworks to ensure data quality integrity and security.
• Develop and execute strategies for legacy system rationalisation to streamline data management and reduce technical debt.
• Oversee the migration of data from legacy systems to modern platforms ensuring data integrity and minimal disruption.
• Stay closely informed regarding industry trends and best practices in data management and analytics.

Data Analytics and Reporting 

• Oversee the development and implementation of data analytics and reporting solutions to support business objectives.
• Collaborate with business stakeholders to identify data needs and deliver actionable insights.
• Evaluate select and implement BI tools and technologies to enhance data analysis and reporting capabilities.
• Ensure the effective use of BI tools across the organization providing training and support to users
• Ensure the accuracy consistency and timeliness of data and reports.

Data Ingestion and Management

• Oversee the integration of data from various sources to create a unified data environment.
• Manage data warehousing ETL processes and data pipelines to ensure efficient data flow and accessibility.
• Ensure data is stored processed and accessed in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.

Advanced Analytics and AI/ML

• Lead the development and implementation of advanced analytics solutions to uncover insights and drive business growth.
• Utilize advanced statistical and analytical techniques to analyse large datasets and identify trends and patterns.
• Provide thought leadership on the use of advanced analytics to support strategic decision-making. Develop and implement AI and ML strategies to enhance data-driven decision-making.
• Oversee the development and deployment of AI and ML models to solve complex business problems.
• Collaborate with data scientists and engineers to integrate AI and ML solutions into business processes.

BI & Data Centre of Excellence 

• Establish and lead a Centre of Excellence for BI and data to drive best practices standards and continuous improvement.
• Develop and implement standards methodologies and tools for BI and data across the organization.
• Provide training and support to BI and data teams to ensure consistent application of best practices.
• Foster a culture of innovation and excellence within the BI and data community.

Vendor Management

• Manage relationships with software vendors or third-party providers ensuring service levels are met and addressing any contractual or support-related issues.
• Collaborate with vendors to stay informed about product updates upcoming releases and potential impact on our applications.

Qualifications :

• Bachelors degree in computer science Data Science Business Analytics or a related field. (or equivalent experience).
• Minimum of 10 years of experience in a senior BI and data role with a strong background in data strategy analytics and reporting (preferably within the logistics and transport industry)
• Strong understanding of BI tools data management processes AI ML advanced analytics and legacy rationalisation.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft BI toolsets including Power BI SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) but also other products such as Crystal Reports and Qlik.
• Extensive experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Factory Azure Synapse Analytics Azure SQL Database and Azure Data Lake.
• Proven track record of successfully leading and motivating high-performing teams.
• Advanced knowledge of data & analytical methodologies
• Excellent communication collaboration and interpersonal skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet deadlines.
• Experience working in a fast-paced results-oriented environment.
• Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement and innovation.
