The Crane Technician is responsible for the inspection maintenance troubleshooting and repair of tower cranes and overhead cranes operating on OLS projects in Toronto. The role supports safe and reliable crane operations in accordance with manufacturer specifications company procedures and applicable regulations.
The technician will work on:
- Potain Tower Cranes (Hammerhead and Luffing types)
- Liebherr Tower Cranes (Hammerhead type)
- Imocom Overhead Cranes
Key Responsibilities
Safety & Compliance
- Follow company safety procedures and Ontario regulations.
- Participate in safety meetings and toolbox talks.
- Ensure lockout/tagout procedures are strictly applied during maintenance activities.
Maintenance & Inspection
- Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on tower and overhead cranes.
- Conduct routine inspections in accordance with manufacturer manuals and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure all equipment remains compliant with safety standards and operational requirements.
Troubleshooting & Repairs
- Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults on crane systems.
- Troubleshoot control systems motors limit switches VFDs and safety devices.
- Replace electrical and mechanical components as required.
- Perform functional testing after repairs or part replacements.
Electrical Work
- Read and interpret electrical schematics wiring diagrams and technical drawings.
- Replace electrical components including contactors relays sensors encoders motors limit switches and control panels.
- Ensure proper commissioning after electrical interventions.
Parts Suppliers & Documentation
- Identify and order replacement parts in accordance with manufacturer maintenance manuals.
- Maintain regular communication with equipment suppliers and OEM representatives for technical support parts clarification pricing and lead times.
- Coordinate with suppliers to expedite critical components to minimize downtime.
- Maintain accurate service reports inspection records and parts tracking documentation.
Qualifications :
- Proven experience working on tower cranes (hammerhead and luffing) and overhead cranes.
- Experience with Potain and Liebherr equipment is required.
- Experience with Imocom overhead cranes is an asset.
- Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and electrical schematics.
- Knowledge of crane control systems and safety devices.
- Ability to work independently and prioritize tasks in a high-demand construction environment.
