Summary: Retail Plant Specialist is mainly responsible for daily sales of plant material in the Garden Center hitting certain goals designed and created by the Garden Center Manager care and appearance of the plant material and garden area maintenance of garden area and plant growth. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Retail Sales:
- Assisting customers with questions pertaining to plant material
- Helping develop small designs for customers
- Using pre-existing knowledge to select appropriate plant material for different soils sun exposure etc.
- Dress for the weather. We work rain or shine; 100-degree summer days or freezing winter days. Hours are based on customer sales and work that needs to be done.
- You may be asked to go home early because of lack of sales or asked to stay longer because of increased sales.
Care of Plant Material:
- Guaranteeing that plant material is:
- watered daily if necessary
- pruned and dead-headed weekly
- plant material is weeded daily
- Guaranteeing that the best plant material is selected to go on Garden Center stock beds
- Removal of plants if not appropriate for sale
- Selection of plants from Green Biz appropriate for the specific time of year
- Fertilizing and/or treating plant material for pests or fungi when needed.
Maintenance of Garden Center
- Guaranteeing that these duties have been performed on a daily basis by Green Side Up Staff:
- Standing up plant material every morning
- Picking up of trash
- Staking plant material
- Picking up of stakes ribbon empty pots
- Emptying of weeding buckets and debris buckets
- Cleanliness of stock beds green house and garden area
- To include blowing off debris from beds
- Separating and spacing of plant material
- Cleaning of pond filter
- Consolidating plant material
- Unloading new plant material off of trucks and tagging material
- Staging plant material and hardgoods for inclement weather and reassembling when weather has passed
Inventory of Plant Material
- Creating list of plant material needed for Garden Center and supplying list to Garden Center Manager
- Keeping inventory numbers of plant material up to date with software by providing Garden Center Manager with changes removals or additions to plant inventory
