Job Summary

The New York City Department of Correction (DOC) is an integral part of the Citys evolving criminal justice system participating in reform initiatives and strategies aimed to move the City towards a smaller jail system without compromising public safety. The DOC is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for our employees visitors volunteers and people in our custody. Importantly safe jails enable DOC to provide people in custody with the tools and opportunities they need to successfully re-enter their communities. The DOC operates facilities and court commands across the five boroughs with more than 7500 diverse professionals and knowledgeable experts.

The Office of Management Analysis and Planning (OMAP) play a crucial role in enabling data-driven decision-making within the correctional facility. As the complexity and significance of institutional data grow the need for specialized analytical support becomes increasingly critical. OMAP seeks a dedicated Data Analytics Intern who will be instrumental in enhancing the offices capacity to provide timely accurate and actionable this role the intern will contribute to improved operational efficiency by documenting data processes flows and reporting procedures. They will assist with data governance initiatives maintaining data dictionaries standards and quality control measures. Key responsibilities will include organizing datasets preparing cleaned data ensuring structural consistency and contributing to various analytical projects.

-Assist in data extraction cleaning and transformation using SQL and Python.
-Develop and maintain data visualizations and dashboards in Tableau to aid informed business decision-making.
-Conduct exploratory data analysis to uncover trends and insights.
-Perform statistical analysis on large datasets.
-Support automation efforts for recurring reports and optimize data pipelines for greater efficiency.
-Collaborate with senior analysts to generate actionable insights and strategic recommendations.
-Present findings in a clear concise and visually engaging manner.

Qualifications :

As of June of the Program year the prospective intern must be a student matriculated in a college or be a recent college graduate (winter/spring term of the Program year).
NOTE: Appointment to this title is only valid for the duration of the Program June - August each year.
