Job Summary

The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order. The New York City Police Department strives to foster a safe and fair City through the strategic deployment of resources focusing on both crime prevention and addressing quality-of-life concerns while building lasting community relationships.

The Information Technology Services Division (ITSD) oversees critical projects and technological initiatives within the NYPD. They maintain and enhance the departments IT infrastructure including networks servers and workstations. Notably ITSD has rolled out various advancements such as equipping officers with cellular phones applications and digitizing department forms to improve efficiency.

ITSD is seeking a qualified candidate for the position of IT Project Specialist to act in the role of Datacenter Operations Specialist who will perform the following duties:
1. Oversee hardware installation decommissioning cabling power distribution and environmental controls; maintain accurate documentation including rack elevations floor plans asset inventories and operational procedures.
2. Ensure compliance with physical security protocols and access control policies; monitor data center performance identify risks implement corrective actions and coordinate maintenance windows equipment moves and infrastructure upgrades.
3. Lead and manage IT infrastructure projects from planning through execution develop project plans timelines and resource requirements; coordinate with internal teams external vendors and city agencies to ensure successful delivery; Track project progress prepare status reports maintain project documentation and ensure all work aligns with NYPD technology standards and operational requirements.
4. Collaborate with servers storage network and facilities teams to support ongoing operations; coordinate with internal teams external vendors and city agencies to ensure successful delivery; Ensure all work aligns with NYPD standards and operational requirements and track project progress prepare status reports and maintain project documentation.
5. Collaborate with servers storage network and facilities teams to support ongoing operation; support lifecycle management of hardware assets including procurement and retirement; assist with troubleshooting data center-related issues and escalating when necessary; ensure adherence to best practices for power cooling cable management and equipment layout.
6. Supervise daily operations across multiple NYPD data center; coordinate deliveries installations and maintenance performed by external partners.

Qualifications :

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college in computer science engineering human computer interaction interactive media digital and graphics design data visualization communication or a related field and four years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology process methodology and/or domain; or

2. An associate degree from an accredited college in computer science engineering human computer interaction interactive media digital and graphics design data visualization communication or a related field and six years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology process methodology and/or domain; or

3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and eight years of satisfactory full-time experience related to the area(s) required by the particular position and a specialization in a relevant technology process methodology and/or domain; or

4. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above.
