The Associate Nurse Unit Manager (ANUM) for Cardiology & Cardiothoracic Services is responsible for the operational and clinical leadership of 3 North.
As ANUM you will help shape the delivery of safe high-quality care for patients undergoing medical cardiology treatment cardiac surgery and cardiothoracic interventions. You will be a visible and supportive leader on the floorguiding practice strengthening clinical standards and ensuring every patient experience reflects excellence.
Reporting directly to the Cardiac Services Manager this position will work collaboratively with this manager to ensure optimal day to day operations of 3 North.
Working closely with clinicians multidisciplinary teams and hospital leadership you will champion service excellence enhance patient flow and nurture a positive high-performing team culture.
Your leadership will not only support outstanding patient outcomes but also inspire growth and development across the team.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership & Management
Provide effective clinical and operational leadership for the 3N Cardiology/Cardiothoracic ward.
Promote a cohesive supportive and accountable team culture.
Lead change management initiatives and support continuous improvement activities in collaboration with the Cardiac Services Manager.
Clinical Governance & Patient Safety
Ensure compliance with national standards organisational policies and professional frameworks in conjunction with the Cardiac Services Manager.
Oversee delivery of evidencebased cardiology and cardiothoracic nursing care.
Maintain strong focus on risk mitigation and incident management.
Facilitate timely escalation deterioration management and postoperative care pathways.
Service Delivery & Patient Flow
Coordinate daytoday operations to optimise bed management discharge planning and surgical flow.
Work collaboratively with the cardiac services manager cardiac surgeons cardiologists anaesthetists ICU theatre and allied health.
Support the Cardiac Services Manager in the smooth integration of new procedures and processes within cardiothoracic surgery structural heart programs advanced cardiac procedures and expanding models of care.
Staff Development & Education
Provide mentorship coaching and performance development for nursing staff. Support orientation competency development and ongoing clinical education.
Collaborate with Clinical Nurse Specialists and Hospital Educator to maintain mandatory training and cardiothoracic and cardiology specific upskilling.
Communication & Collaboration
Act as key liaison for multidisciplinary stakeholders including medical teams ICU theatre through to the cardiac services manager.
Facilitate regular team meetings safety huddles and communication channels.
Partner with patients and families ensuring compassionate care and clear communication.
Administrative & Financial Accountability
Manage budgets resource utilisation and procurement aligned with departmental needs in conjunction with the Cardiac Services Manager.
Monitor activity data KPIs patient acuity and service performance.
Ensure documentation reporting and recordkeeping meet organisational standards.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Registered Nurse with current AHPRA registration.
Minimum 5 years acute cardiology/cardiothoracic nursing experience.
Demonstrated leadership/management experience in an acute hospital setting.
Proven experience leading teams within complex cardiac services (e.g. CCU cardiothoracic surgery cardiac medical/surgical).
Postgraduate qualifications in management critical care or cardiac nursing (desirable).
