The role of the Homicide Investigation teams is the effective investigation of all homicide and manslaughter offences including child homicide and homicide offences occurring within a care setting. The teams are also responsible for the investigation of suspicious deaths. The teams work an 6 week shift pattern.
The Role
Your investigative actions will include conducting house to house enquires taking statements from witnesses and locating securing and preserving evidence for example CCTV. You will also be responsible for assisting with the preparation of files for court. You will report to the team Supervisor. You will face many challenges as no two days are the same. You need to be dynamic and be confident in making the right decisions.
Applicants should be prepared to work in any area of the force. You will work in a diverse team consisting of Police Constables Detectives and other Police Investigators.
The Person
Police Staff Investigators continue to be an integral part of MCU. You do not need to be a Police Officer to be an investigator. Full training will be given but any prior investigation skills would be an advantage. We are looking for people who are flexible organised self-motivated and most of all approachable to join us. You will be required to offer support to victims of crime and be prepared to handle and diffuse situations of conflict. You will need a full manual UK driving licence good I.T skills and be able to work on your own and as part of a team. You should be prepared to drive to various locations across the West Midlands to complete enquiries and may be required to support other departments across the force.

Vetting: Successful applicants will be required to pass Recruitment Vetting and Counter Terrorism Clearance scrutiny prior to commencing their role this will include a full background & financial disclosure as part of the vetting process.
Medical: Appointment to this role will be dependent upon successfully medical checks which may include a drugs test and if required a fitness test.
