Job Summary

TITLE: Intern - Production Assistant


LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd. St. Paul MN 55102

COMPENSATION: $16.50 hourly


HOURS: This is a part-time temporary position from approximately June 8 2026 to August 30 2026. A part-time intern must be available to work 15 hours per week. This position offers a flexible work schedule coordinated with the interns schedule and operational needs. Preferred working hours are 5 hour shifts between M-F.

SEMINAR EVENTS: Interns are required to participate in three in-person seminars focused on professional development learning how cultural organizations operate and building a network of industry professionals. At the end of the semester interns complete a final presentation to share their work.

DESCRIPTION: We are seeking a motivated dependable and detail-oriented Production Assistant (PA) to support all phases of production for the four-part documentary series The Safe Space. This is a hands-on role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced collaborative documentary environment and wants to grow within a high-level storytelling team. The Production Assistant will support pre-production production and post-production efforts ensuring smooth operations across departments. This role requires professionalism initiative strong communication skills and a genuine passion for documentary storytelling.


This role is primarily on-site at our headquarters studio within the Black Youth Healing Arts Center. After a structured system and sustainable workflow have been fully established hybrid and remote flexibility may be available based on project needs and performance.


RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Assist in preparing interview materials and research packets for guests; 2)Help gather and organize archival materials for interview segments; 3) Coordinate schedules confirm logistics prep call sheets and support production planning; 4) Prepare and organize release forms and production documents; 5) Assist with guest arrival and on-set coordination; 6) Ensure all release forms are completed and properly documented; 7) Support crew with basic set preparation and breakdown; 8) Take detailed notes during interviews identifying key moments and story beats; 9) Help manage equipment media cards and production materials; 10) Assist in creating interview multi-cam sequences from multi-camera footage; 11) Help clean and refine interview transcripts to accurately reflect spoken dialogue; 12) Organize and label footage project files and archival materials; 13) Scan upload and catalog release forms and archival assets; 14) Assist story producers in pulling selects from transcripts and organizing footage into story themes.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student or have graduated within the past 12 months at the time of application.

  • Ideal candidates might be currently pursuing or have graduated with a degree in the following areas: History Archival Science/Library Science Journalism/Media Studies Film Studies/Media Production Public History/Museum Studies

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to take initiative and anticipate production needs.

  • Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively.

  • Professional demeanor when interacting with interview guests.

  • Passion for storytelling and documentary filmmaking.
