SUMMARY:

This position is accountable for ensuring compliance standards are met for state and federal regulations that governs the rights of a student with a disability to ensure Free Appropriate Public Education FAPE. Responsibilities include the scheduling and facilitation of TEAM members to review and present comprehensive assessments necessary to determine eligibility which impacts the development of the students Individualized Educational Program (IEP). Through the TEAM meeting process critical accountability measures must ensure that a student with a disability has access as well as receives specialized instruction services in the Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). The Team Chairperson represents the district as the designee is appointed to commit district resources while overseeing adherence to special education federal and state regulations which also includes compliance related matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates keen understanding and implementation of IDEA federal and state regulations that governs the rights of a student with disabilities.
  • Analyzes student needs or caseload for anticipated service needs.
  • Responsible for working directly with school-based evaluation and/or educational TEAM to ensure that students with disabilities who are eligible for specialized instruction are educated in the least restrictive environment.
  • Consultation with school-based MTSS Teams around student needs and planning.
  • Maintains and monitors timelines throughout the IEP process by ensuring that the district maintains compliance in accordance to state and federal regulations.
  • Guides IEP TEAMs in the determination of eligibility for special education services by the identification of what a student will need in the area(s) of specialized services as required by state and federal regulations.
  • Ensures that students with disabilities have access to the general education Core curriculum.
  • Assists with Special Education Indicators and Coordinated Program Review Indicators.
  • Reviews student records to ensure compliance standards are met through the DESE Coordinated Program Review process.
  • Assists schools in analyzing data to determine measurable goals and meaningful objectives as determined by the development of the students individualized education program (IEP).
  • Coordinates and facilitates IEP meetings that promote parent engagement participation and understanding of the eligibility process throughout the TEAM meeting process.
  • Coordinates and facilitates student data meetings.
  • Communicates with parents school staff and community agencies to provide technical assistance and clarity regarding the IEP TEAM process.
  • Collaborates and shares knowledge of available district resources with other Team members.
  • Develops and oversees the coordination of the IEP process which includes writing and entering the required documentation into IEP Management System.
  • Reviews IEPs for accuracy and signs IEPs when finalized.
  • Responsible for working with direct service providers with the IEP process including sharing recommendations completing assessments and the documentation of student-specific goals and objectives in the IEP program.
  • Oversees special education Ipad testing platform evaluation forms and needs
  • Provides professional development training and technical support to district personnel including general and special education staff around the IEP TEAM process and best practices.
  • Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race color gender age marital status religion gender identity natural origin sexual orientation homelessness or disability.
  • Provides and coordinates students who require ESY services.
  • Plans and attends in conjunction with the Director of Student Services monthly/weekly scheduled department meetings and serve as appropriate on staff committees.
  • Performs any other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as the Superintendent or designee may from time to time assign and delegate.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of Criminal Records Check (CORI) and fingerprints
  • Licensed as a Special Education Teacher or Related Service Provider.
  • Masters Degree
  • Excellent oral and written and communication skills.
  • Critical thinking given the ability to multi-task with exceptional organizational skills.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent or designee may find appropriate and acceptable.
  • Strong computer literacy skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Advanced educational preparation in special education leadership.
  • Knowledge of the federal and state regulations that govern special education and the TEAM evaluation process.
  • District knowledge of programs and service delivery options; including alternative career and vocational technical programs and offerings within the district.
  • Teaching and or administrative experience supporting students with disabilities and/or inclusion service delivery models
  • SEI Endorsement

EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Hudson School Committees policy on evaluation or in accordance with union contract.

WORK YEAR:

  • 10 month 200 day position
  • 4 personal days 17 sick days
  • Benefit Eligible on start date. 30 days to enroll in coverage from start date.

  • This is a salaried position distributed over 26 paychecks including a lump sum in June to cover summer pay

  • Salary Range: up to $105000

While performing duties of this job the employee may often remain in a stationary position for considerable periods of time. The employee will have also have ample periods of standing and may be required to traverse throughout the building. The employee must frequently use hands and frequently operates a computer and other office productivity machinery (i.e. calculator copy machine and computer printer). Physical abilities may also include lifting/carrying/pushing/pulling stooping/crouching reaching/handling talking/hearing conversations and near/far visual acuity/depth perception/color vision/field. Ability must be able to lift and/or push and pull 15 to 20lbs for short periods and walk up and down stairs several times a day. The employee must be able to communicate effectively with students staff members and the public in person and on the telephone.
