Job Summary

Position:FNS Training Manager

Department:Food and Nutrition Services

Wage/Hour Status:Exempt

Immediate Supervisor: Director of FNS

Pay Grade: Per Compensation Manual

Days Employed: Per Compensation Manual

POSITION SUMMARY:

  • Develop organize and implement training programs for managers and school food service staff
  • Ensure staff are preparing menu items correctly
  • Monitor food quality and safety in the kitchens
  • Mentor Assistant Managers helping to prepare them to become managers

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • State Accredited High School diploma or TEA certified GED
  • TASN and/or DISD certified Level IV
  • HACCP trained and Serv Safe Managers certification or equal certification
  • Three years experience in school food service
  • Two years experience as an Assistant Manager IV or AP1 Manager or other experience approved by the FNS Director

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Knowledge of food service operations including production records inventory profit/loss and meals per hour
  • Proficiency in utilizing computer programs that operate inventory and production records as well as experience with Excel and Word programs
  • Familiarity with USDA regulations for the child nutrition program
  • Ability to develop educational materials presentations and training for food service staff in addition to teaching professional development classes
  • Positive attitude and demeanor when working with students parents employees and the public
  • Creativity in the development of marketing and promotional materials for school meals
  • Strength in conflict resolution and interpersonal skills as well as advanced communication and problem-solving abilities
  • Capacity to multitask effectively between large projects and day-to-day responsibilities without supervision
  • Experience with recipe standardization and development

Experience:

  • Minimum of two years experience in a school foodservice supervisory position

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support Managers and Assistant Managers with daily operations and record keeping
  • Assist the dietician with recipe standardization and development
  • Help Operations Supervisor Site Supervisor and Compliance Supervisor as needed
  • Monitor and train all food service staff on HACCP guidelines and procedures
  • Assist with on-site monitoring and compliance reviews
  • Availability to provide assistance/aid at school campuses during emergent situations whenever they arise
  • Schedules and conducts regular onsite training with Managers and Assistant Managers
  • Creates and conducts orientation for new Food and Nutrition substitutes
  • Develop educational materials and teach professional development trainings

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee and manage the daily operations of school cafeterias in the absence of a manager or assistant manager
  • Ensure menu items are prepared correctly using standardized recipes

Tools/Equipment Used:Standard office equipment including computer printer copier fax machine shredder

  • Motion:Frequent walking and reaching frequent standing; kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
  • Lifting:Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); heavy lifting (45 pounds or over)
  • Environment:Work inside and outside at times; exposure to noise
  • Mental Demands:Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to interact positively and proactively with staff and the community
  • Professional Dress: Dress must be clean neat in a manner appropriate for his or her assignment and in accordance with any additional standards established by his or her supervisor and approved by the Superintendent. During work hours visible body piercings (except earrings) will not be allowed.

EVALUATIONS:Performance of this position will be evaluated annually
