The Opportunity
Reporting to the Manager of Infrastructure the Infrastructure Technician Assistant completes data entry of existing watermain sanitary and storm sewer information for input into the City of St. Johns ArcGIS databases.
Accountabilities
Data entry of watermain storm and sanitary sewer information into GIS databases.
Review drawings surveys and inspections videos to obtain asset information.
Assist the Infrastructure Technician with the investigation and collection of field data.
Assist the Infrastructure Technician with GPS surveying of water and sewer assets with a hand-held GPS unit.
Other related duties
The successful applicant will be required to participate in all training programs applicable to this position and other related work. Qualifications
Education
Graduation from high school supplemented by the successful completion of a three (3) year Civil Engineering Technology or Geomatics Engineering Technology program from a recognized educational institution. Must be a member or be eligible to become a member of the Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists of Newfoundland.
Experience
Minimum of 6 months total related experience in water and sewer infrastructure including field inspection of water and sewer installations and/or design/review of water and sewer projects. Experience in the interpretation of plans and specifications is required along with a working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.
Must possess a valid Class 5 Drivers License.
A combination of education and experience acceptable to the City may be considered.
Working Conditions
Spring Summer and Fall months - 30-50% of time in outdoor environments.
Winter months - 10-20% of time in outdoor environments.
All other time spent working in typical office environment.
Most outdoor work completed in vicinity of vehicular traffic with appropriate safety and traffic control measures in place.
Physical Requirements
Assist in the lifting of manhole covers and catch basin frames 1-2 times per week for the purposes of surveying and video inspections.
The incumbent must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Required to drive an assigned City vehicle.
The position is considered safety-sensitive and classified at a heavy level of strenuousness.
This position is classified as safety sensitive. The City of St. Johns has a comprehensive Alcohol and Drug Policy to ensure fitness for work and the completion of a satisfactory alcohol and drug test is a mandatory pre-employment requirement.

8:00 AM to 4:00 PM
