POSITION SUMMARY
Westbank First Nation (WFN) is seeking a motivated Engineering Co-op / Summer Student to join the Capital Projects Assets & Infrastructure team. This is an excellent opportunity for a current engineering student to gain hands-on experience in a professional engineering and infrastructure environment while contributing to community-focused capital projects.
In this role you will support engineers and project teams on a variety of infrastructure and development initiatives including water wastewater transportation and municipal servicing projects. You will gain exposure to engineering design support technical documentation data collection and project coordination while learning industry standards organizational processes and best practices within a First Nation government setting.
The successful candidate will demonstrate strong organizational communication and interpersonal skills maintain strict confidentiality and uphold the policies standards and procedures of Westbank First Nation.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Currently enrolled in an accredited Civil Engineering program
Experience working with indigenous communities/people considered an asset
Equivalent combination of education training and experience may be considered
REQUIREMENTS
Criminal Record Check with results acceptable to WFN
Valid Class 5 Drivers License and Acceptable Drivers Abstract
Maintains a high level of confidentiality and uses discretion on all matters relating to the affairs of the Westbank First Nation
JOB DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES
Engineering Support & Project Assistance
Assist engineers with design analysis testing and documentation of engineering projects under supervision
Support the preparation of technical drawings reports calculations and specifications
Participate in project planning meetings and contribute ideas and solutions
Assist with troubleshooting root cause analysis and process improvements
Documentation & Data Management
Conduct research data collection and analysis to support engineering decisions
Help maintain organized project files drawings and technical documentation
Support quality assurance and validation activities
Assist with tracking project tasks deadlines and deliverables
Collaboration & Learning
Collaborate with cross-functional teams including operations planning and external consultants
Learn about public sector engineering capital planning and infrastructure delivery
Work closely with the engineering team and receive mentorship and guidance
Develop technical communication and teamwork skills in a professional environment
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES
Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to set priorities multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Demonstrates professionalism a positive attitude and strong interpersonal and customer service skills
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative team while showing initiative
Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
Basic to intermediate proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word Excel Outlook); experience with Publisher and Adobe forms is an asset
Interest in engineering design infrastructure and problem-solving
Willingness to learn new software tools and processes
Exposure to CAD GIS or other engineering software is an asset (training will be provided)
Knowledge of Westbank First Nation programs and services is considered an asset
