Job Summary:

The Assistant Academics & Career Advisor is an 11-month position that supports the holistic development academic success and career readiness of studentathletes through individualized advising proactive academic monitoring and strategic career exploration guidance. This role provides direct support to studentathletes of assigned teams collaborates with campus partners and athletic department staff and contributes to unitwide initiatives within Academics & Career and Badger Built. Additionally the position assists the Associate Athletic Director for Student Services with the administration of the Badger Built program. This may include but is not limited to special projects storytelling efforts and event coordination that help student-athletes win now & beyond. Key responsibilities can be found below.

This individual will also participate in the Emerging Leaders Program to gain hands-on experience build their network explore career options and develop essential professional skills.

Key Responsibilities

Academics & Career Advising

  • Provide individualized academic advising and support to assigned student-athletes including assistance with study skills time management and goal setting
  • Advise on academic planning major selection and class scheduling in coordination with campus academic advisors
  • Monitor academic progress and NCAA eligibility for assigned student-athletes
  • Track course performance and proactively adjust support plans to meet evolving academic needs
  • Serve as a consistent resource to help student-athletes create a balanced schedule and meet academic and career milestones
  • Assist student-athletes in exploring career interests and identifying tracks aligned with their long-term goals
  • Provide guidance on career planning tools internship opportunities and graduate/professional school exploration
  • Collaborate with internal and campus career services to connect student-athletes with resources such as resume building job shadowing site visits interview preparation etc.
  • Encourage early and ongoing career planning to prepare students to win now and beyond
  • Meet with prospective student-athlete and their families during the recruitment process to provide information about Academics & Career and Badger Built

Academics & Career Liaison

  • Serve as communication bridge between student-athletes and campus stakeholders including professors advisors etc.
  • Collaborate with coaches and athletic department staff to ensure academic and career needs and goals are met
  • Provide feedback and updates on student progress and address concerns as needed

Unit Support

  • Actively participate in Academics & Career team meetings Badger Built team meetings and assigned pod meetings to ensure alignment and collaboration across support services
  • Serve on designated committees to contribute to unit-wide initiatives
  • Assist with the planning and implementation of new student transition programming
  • Support special initiatives and programming within the unit
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of Badger Built events workshops etc.
  • Contribute to the daily operations and special projects within both Badger Built and Academics &Career to enhance student-athlete support services

Administration/Other

  • Support the administration of Badger Built through marketing communication project and office management
  • Provide insights into building and managing the Badger Built brand both internally and externally through communication event marketing and administrative execution to ensure consistency and operational efficiency
  • Assist in the coordination and execution of Badger Built events workshops etc.
  • Contribute to the daily operations and special projects within both Badger Built and Academics & Career to enhance student-athlete support services

Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Assists with scheduling logistics securing resources and facilitating one or multiple student affairs programs activities and/or services
  • Assists with the design of student-focused programming and associated resources and materials to promote new and ongoing educational initiatives

Serves on collaborative committees and executes essential and administrative functions

  • Provides guidance on resources for individual students or internal stakeholder groups
  • May assist with supervising and training student employees

Compensation:

$20/HR

Required Qualifications:

  • Able to work efficiently across multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal written and interpersonal communication skills with high attention to detail
  • Intentional about building meaningful relationships with coaches staff and student-athletes
  • Strong self/social awareness skills and capable of professionalism in various settings
  • A proactive self-starter that embraces a growth mindset feedback and adaptability

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree in related field
  • Previous collegiate athletic experience

Education:

Candidates must have completed a bachelors degree

Conditions of Appointment: This is a 100% University Staff fixed term appointment with an expected job end date in June of 2027. Salary will be assigned within the appropriate range commensurate with the candidates qualifications and experience. An excellent benefits package is also included.
