Job Summary

This is what you will do:

The Assoc. Director of Medical Affairs provides scientific and medical leadership to establish a deep understanding of the medical landscape regarding relevant rare amyloidoses such as AL-A and Alexion line with Alexions overall strategy they are responsible for developing and implementing long-term strategies and establishing sustainable medical practices and infrastructures.

The Assoc. Director of Medical Affairs Amyloidosis makes strategic contributions to Alexions activities in the field of rare amyloidoses. They support all functions of the German subsidiary working in this field in achieving local targets and Alexion Global Medical Affairs in its mission to achieve treatment outcomes by establishing and continuously improving an evidence-based standard of medical care. At the same time they act as the external contact for medical and scientific concerns in the indication area.

You will be responsible for:

  • Disciplinary leadership of the Amyloidosis Medical Affairs team and ensuring the teams objectives are achieved through the efficient management of all employees directly reporting to the position and the retention of talented employees through personal development support.
  • Development and implementation of the local medical strategy to support clinical practice and the objectives of the overall company.
  • Definition and communication of the resources required for the Amyloidosis Medical Affairs department to achieve local objectives.
  • Identification of and collaboration with scientific opinion leaders other key customers and stakeholders including professional societies and associations.
  • Collaboration with International Global Medical Affairs and other functions for the successful local implementation of the Alexion strategy.
  • Responsibility for the implementation of new medical practices the evaluation of new indications analysis of the status quo of current treatment and patient pathways identification of patients for clinical research and the development of a deep understanding of the respective indication area.
  • Acquisition of sufficient knowledge of current local regulations of the pharmaceutical industry and collaboration with the Regulatory Affairs department Pharmacovigilance department Quality Assurance Legal Commercial Department and all other company divisions

You will need to have:

  • University degree in medicine (preferred) pharmacy or biology PhD desirable
  • 5-8 years of experience in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology industry in medical affairs
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate teams
  • Proven ability to operate successfully in a matrix environment
  • Strong analytical and strategic skills
  • Good communication and persuasion skills
  • Positive attitude toward change and challenges

We would prefer for you to have:

  • Experience with indications for hematological diseases is an advantage
  • Experience in launching new innovative medications
  • Knowledge of rare diseases
  • Excellent knowledge of local pharmaceutical industry regulations
  • Proven successful solution- and goal-oriented working practices
  • Ability to build and expand robust internal and external networks
