The Division of the Emory Vaccine Center within the Emory National Primate Research Center at Emory University is currently seeking a Director Flow Cytometry Technologist to join our team. Our work consists of cell sorting user training instrument maintenance instrument troubleshooting administration of user billing and accounts development of new training materials planning of workshops and assisting users with experimental design and data analysis.

The ideal candidate should be motivated dependable detail-oriented have a positive attitude and passion for research. The Technologist Director Flow Cytometry will be a team player who is willing to learn on the job and collaborate with lab members and center members. The Director will work to ensure the highest quality of laboratory research support and has good communication skills with co-workers the management team PIs research staff students and other support services.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages a Flow Cytometry Core Facility at the Emory National Primate Research Center; may supervise laboratory personnel.
  • Provides cell sorting services to researchers to include sorting of potentially biohazardous samples.
  • Handles routine maintenance of instruments including troubleshooting and repair of electronics fluidics lasers and computer components.
  • Establishes and maintains a program to authorize use of instruments by independent researchers.
  • Develops basic and advanced flow cytometry training programs. Serves as a key resource in technical and scientific areas related to flow cytometry.
  • Trains new users in the operation of benchtop analytical flow cytometers.
  • Provides scientific consulting services including experimental design sample preparation and protocol development for a diverse array of users from multiple disciplines including immunology oncology biochemistry hematology and pathology.
  • Interfaces with equipment field service engineers and ensures compliance with relevant maintenance contracts.
  • Prepares budgets and billing statements and balances accounts.
  • Provides support for grant applications by assisting with data presentation and facility descriptions.
  • Oversees the development of a web site to include information on recharge rates online scheduling scientific protocols and links to other related web sites.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A bachelors degree preferably in a biologically relevant field.
  • Three years of experience related to flow cytometry.
  • Familiarity with basic immunology.
  • A high level of skill with Microsoft Office applications (or equivalent software packages).
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT:

  • Work schedule to be discussed during interview.
  • Involves working with biohazardous blood and tissues.
  • Involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks which require following basic safety precautions.
  • Duties are normally performed in a typical laboratory environment
  • Requires the ability to bend kneel and/or squat

PRE-EMPLOYMENT SCREENING STATEMENT:

The Emory National Primate Research Center (EPC) in conjunction with Emory University conducts pre-employment screenings for all positions. Updated COVID-19 vaccinations may be necessary for specific research projects.
