Job Duties:

Provides nursing care to Life Flight. Follows and adheres to Act 37 standards and protocols.

  • Accepts a duty assignment at any program site as deemed necessary by program leadership to maintain operations.
  • Provides nursing care from initial contact until patient care is relinquished to accepting medical facility.
  • Maintains thorough patient care documentation in the Electronic Medical Record.
  • Practices nursing within their scope of practice as defined by the state BEMS (act 37) and Geisinger maintains competency in knowledge and psychomotor skills by participating in ongoing laboratory and clinical experiences.
  • Communicates educational needs to the Life Flight clinical leadership team Chief Flight Nurse or Medical Director.
  • Maintains programs monthly continuing education requirements.
  • Remains knowledgeable in use and routine maintenance of all equipment and supplies used by Life Flight.
  • Maintains medical interior of Life Flight aircraft and ground ambulances.
  • Assures adequate inventory of equipment and supplies.
  • Assures a clean and orderly environment at assigned Life Flight base.
  • Functions as a flight crew member.
  • Assists the pilot when needed.
  • This includes attending pre-mission briefings and mission debriefings and completes necessary documentation.
  • Serves as a transport resource as applicable on specialty team transports. These include ECMO and NICU.
  • Complies with safety standards to assure safety of self medical crew members patient and equipment during all phases of flight.
  • Serves as a role model teacher and clinical resource to preferring hospital EMS and other health care professionals.
  • Acts as preceptor and participates in orientation of new employees and students as assigned Completes reports when applicable for all safety related incidents.
  • Participates in required patient safety education programs and other activities designed to improve departmental and organizational safety.
  • Provides input to the clinical management team for performance appraisals of care delivery team members.
  • Problem solves troubleshoots and takes corrective measures in care and handling of equipment.

Works in a patient care environment in and around aircraft and is exposed to possible infectious diseases and chemical toxins. Position may require sitting for long periods of time in a helicopter or in an office environment. Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Exposed to non-conventional motion noise vibration jet fumes and extremetemperatures. Working conditions in or near aircraft and/or aircraft hangar environment on a daily basis and may be exposed to loud aircraft noise fumes gases odors dust particles and mechanical and electrical hazards. Travel may be required. Employee may not exceed 250 lbs in weight in flight gear. Accountable for satisfying all job specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures. Required Certifications:

One of the following specialty certifications required upon hire:

CCRN- Critical Care Flight RN

CEN Certified Emergency Nurse Specialization

CFRN Certified Flight RN

CTRN- Certified Transport RN Specialization

CFRN required within one year of orientation.

Education:

Graduate from Specialty Training Program-Nursing (Required)

Experience:

Minimum of 3 years-Nursing (Required)

Certification(s) and License(s):

Basic Life Support Certification - Default Issuing Body Certified Flight Registered Nurse within one year - Board of Certification for Emergency Nursing Licensed Registered Nurse (Pennsylvania) - RNState of Pennsylvania Neonatal Resuscitation Program within one year of hire - Neonatal Resuscitation Program Pre-Hospital Registered Nurse - Default Issuing Body S.T.A.B.L.E. Certified within one year - The S.T.A.B.L.E. Program Valid Drivers License - Default Issuing Body
