Resource person to members of department/area/grade Duties and Responsibilities: District LEA Representative will work with and guide School administrators in the following LEA functions Facilitate special education meetings as the chairperson keeping the team on timeline and focused while making sure team members are complying with IDEA/ Special Education Law Balance the input and concerns of parents teachers and other team members ensuring that all voices are heard and considered in the decision-making process. Support parents/guardians to help with their involvement in the special education process. Collaborate with taking meeting notes and ensuring the notes are complete before giving to parents/guardians Explain procedural safeguards and legal rights to parents Explain documents at meetings (ie. permission to evaluate prior written notice) Maintain a clear understanding of continuum of services/programs in order to ensure LRE/FAPE Maintain an understanding of special education eligibility criteria in order to guide the team and provide an informed opinion Have an understanding of resources available to students in order to ensure appropriate resources are allocated to maximize educational achievement. Review IEPs prior to and during meetings and make sure they are compliant Review special education meeting paperwork to make sure everything is in order following state and legal guidelines prior to sending to the Student Services office Support to ensure compliance with the procedures and timeframes as outlined in the Regulations for Elementary and Secondary Education Governing the Education of Children with Disabilities Support Special Educators with Amendment letters for IEP changes Conducting special education related meetings Chairing Evaluation Team and Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings. Recording meeting minutes and relevant special education data. Supporting the involvement of parents in the special education process. Monitoring compliance with RIDE regulations. Reports To: Building Principal
