Job Description
The Department of Neurosurgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is seeking a board certified/board eligible general Neurosurgeon (primarily spine) to join our group of skilled neurosurgeons in a highly collaborative community-hospital environment while maintaining an academic faculty rank (open rank non-tenure-earning) and a strong relationship with our academic education and research programs. Employment and benefits will be from both UAB and University of Alabama Health Services Foundation (UAHSF) which includes the attractive Teachers Retirement System of Alabama retirement benefits from UAB as well as a 13.05% 403(b) employer contribution (up to a federal maximum) from UAHSF among other comprehensive and very generous benefits. This newly recruited neurosurgeon will join and expand our growing team of UAB Neurosurgeons at our UAB St. Vincents Birmingham hospital location 810 St. Vincents Drive in Birmingham Alabama as well as our outpatient-only UAB St. Vincents One Nineteen OR location 7191 Cahaba Valley Road Birmingham AL. The neurosurgeon will be assigned 2 days of OR at our UAB St. Vincents Birmingham hospital performing primarily spine cases as well as low-acuity community-hospital type cranial cases. This location can support the more complex cases in its main ORs and same day/lower acuity cases in its quick-turnover North Tower ORs. The neurosurgeon will also be assigned 1 day of elective outpatient-only OR at our UAB St. Vincents 119 facility (ambulatory surgery center). The neurosurgeon will hold clinic 2 days per week with 1 day at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham and 1 day at our UAB One Inverness location1 Inverness Center Parkway Suite 100 Birmingham AL near the UAB St. Vincents 119 campus. The neurosurgeon will be required to take neurosurgical call at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham hospital shared among the other UAB neurosurgeons and a small private practice estimated to be about 5-7 days per month. No call is expected at the main UAB Hospital location (academic center) nor at the outpatient-only St. Vincents 119 location. Upon request the position may include occasional work for complex cases at the University of Alabama University Hospital if operating rooms and beds are available however to be clear this positions primary locations and responsibilities are at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham & UAB St. Vincents 119 ORs and UAB St. Vincents Birmingham and UAB One Inverness clinics. The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in joining an existing community of Neurosurgeons practicing in a community-hospital environment and expanding our departments practice. The ideal candidate will have a desire to interact with resident education at the main campus through resident teaching conferences and education. Currently there are no resident rotations at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham or UAB St. Vincents 119. Required Qualifications
MD DO or MD/PhD degree /BE in Neurosurgery with expertise in spinal surgery. Eligible for licensure in the state of Alabama.

Preferred Qualifications
Desirable candidates want to practice in a community hospital setting and expand our current footprint at UAB St. Vincents Birmingham Level III hospital & UAB St. Vincents One Nineteen outpatient-only facility. Community Hospital location academic rank non-tenure earning. Primarily spine
