You are an energetic team player who will participate in all animal care duties and ensure that optimal levels of care are administered to the animals based on the Five Freedoms. You have experience in customer relations and previous experience in animal husbandry. You care deeply about animals and uphold the highest animal care the Position:The main responsibility of the Animal Care Attendant position is to care for the health and welfare of the animals in the Shelter. A subsidiary responsibility is to give support to the front office staff in an effective and courteous specific duties:To work collaboratively with others to maintain the entire physical plant in a clean sanitary and efficient manner on an ongoing basisTo maintain the kennels runs and cat cages in a clean sanitary and efficient manner on an ongoing basisTo treat the animals humanely with compassion and concern and transmit these values to others both on and off the jobTo provide the animals with proper diet and to ensure that they feed and water properlyTo ensure the animals health and well-being in accordance with the societys animal health policy including the administration of such medications as specified by the animal health technologist or other authorized shelter staffTo maintain a high level of standards in order to portray to the public the image of the SPCA as a compassionate and caring organizationTo willingly help co-ordinate the supporting work of volunteers in the spirit that we all work together for the benefit of all animalsTo perform other duties as required which are necessary to ensure the smooth operation of the shelterTo collaborate with other shelter personnel thereby creating a positive and harmonious atmosphere among staff and volunteers enhancing team performanceSecondary Key Responsibilities:To assist the front office staff as may be required in:Telephone reception and other communicationsAnswering counter inquiriesReceiving animals for surrenderAll adoption proceduresLicense and merchandise salesPerformance of general office routines and record keepingOther related dutiesTo perform all of the above in a courteous friendly way to clients volunteers and other staff to ensure the highest possible reputation for the shelter and the maintenance of the goodwill of its communityQualifications you need to have:High School diploma or equivalentValid Class N or 5 BC Drivers License and drivers abstractDemonstrable interest in all aspects of animal welfareKnowledge of the geography of the Branchs warrant area in general and the Shelters warrant area in particularA sound knowledge of animals their breeds characteristics and more common diseasesAbility to work as a team player and demonstrable well-developed interpersonal skillsBasic computer skills sufficient to deal effectively with the necessary front office routinesExcellent customer serviceAbility to prioritize demands on timePhilosophical harmony with the vision mission and strategic directions of the BC to apply:If you are interested in joining our Vancouver team and are legally entitled to work in Canada we would like to hear from you.
