We are seeking to fill two positions of Assistant Storekeeper G3 based in the WFP UNHRD Brindisi hub.

ORGANIZATIONAL CONTEXT

Global hunger has reached alarming levels in 2022 and WFP the Nobel Peace Prize winner in 2020 remains dedicated and committed to address this global food crisis. The United Nations Humanitarian Response Depot (UNHRD) is a network of strategically located hubs established to support humanitarian organizations and the broader international community in responding to emergencies and crises. UNHRD provides essential services such as storage easy access to critical supplies and technical assistance.

UNHRD is a humanitarian platform providing comprehensive supply chain services through a global network of hubs. By fostering partnerships and facilitating innovation we support the international humanitarian community to respond quickly and effectively to people in need. Our network of five strategically located humanitarian support hubs provide free storage and easy access to essential supplies along with technical support enabling the international humanitarian community to respond quickly and effectively to people in need.

These positions will be based in Brindisi Italy and will report to the UNHRD Brindisi Warehouse Manager.


THE ROLE

Under the supervision and guidance of the Logistics Associate (Warehouse Manager) the Assistant Storekeepers will support receipt/dispatch and verification of Non-Food Items (NFI) in order to maximize quality of warehouse operations and mitigate losses and to support the best storage management practices in compliance with WFP warehouse standards and established guidelines. The selected incumbents will be expected to demonstrate good attention to details teamwork and proactivity skills with the ability to communicate effectively and work well with a wide range of individuals.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES (not all-inclusive nor exhaustive):

  • Support receipt/dispatch commodities including transshipment (truck to truck) against official approved documentation (e.g. waybills and/or delivery notes) ensuring accuracy in physical count of commodities including the quality in compliance with the established standards.

  • Prepare and verify warehouse and transport documents and maintain confidential files and accurate warehouse transaction records to ensure immediate reporting on commodity movements in line with the corporate requirements.

  • Support daily warehouse closing reconciliation and accurate inventory checks in compliance with the warehouse management requirements.

  • Perform daily inspections and prepare reports on the quantity and quality of the commodities received/dispatched and handled and refer to the supervisor for appropriate action.

  • Support implementation of appropriate measures to safeguard non-food commodities to ensure quality control using standard preventive measures in line with WFP established procedures and authorization received from the supervisor.

  • Monitor condition of the warehouse and commodities and take appropriate actions to support efficient warehouse space-utilization and well-organized commodity storage following WFP warehouse standards.


OTHER POST REQUIREMENTS

Essentials:

  • Some experience monitoring or supporting various aspects of logistics operations.

  • Some experience in supporting warehouse management and inventory management.

  • Some knowledge of logistics and shipping services and/or operations.

  • Drivers license B.

  • Some experience operating forklifts with valid certification.

  • Demonstrated experience collaborating with other departments such as logistics customer service etc.

Desirables:

  • Some experience in the humanitarian response.

  • Some knowledge of ERP systems and Excel.

  • Drivers license C & D/certification to operate commercial or light vehicles and experience driving safely and responsibly complying with the applicable driving laws.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


Education: Completion of secondary school education. A post-secondary certificate in the related functional area is desirable.


Experience: Three or more years of experience in warehouse operations or relative business stream.

Language: Working knowledge (proficiency/FAQ level B) of English.

Salary scale: UN - Salary Scale

Applicants must be:

  • A national of Italy or other EU/Schengen country OR in possession of a valid long-term Italian residency and work permit and;

  • Reside within commuting distance (100 km or 1.5 hours travel time) from the WFP UNHRD Brindisi hub (SP 96 (ex SS 16); Km 906.8 (ex-USAF AB San Vito dei Normanni) 72100 Brindisi BR Italy) or within the country. If not residing within commuting distance at the time of application candidates must be willing to relocate to Brindisi Italy at their own cost before taking up the assignment. WFP shall not be responsible for any costs associated with such relocation nor shall WFP assist or otherwise be involved in obtaining residency status or legal work permits. Preference will be given to candidates who reside within commuting distance of Brindisi Italy.
