Job Description
The University of Alabama Birmingham Heersink School of Medicine Department of Surgery is currently recruiting faculty candidates to be considered for a tenure track or non-tenure track faculty appointment in the Division of Trauma & Acute Care Surgery . The successful candidate will be expected to meet clinical research and teaching needs as applicable in the Department of Surgery. The Division provides a comprehensive multidisciplinary program of care for severely injured multisystem trauma and burn victims as well as those requiring emergency surgical procedures and surgical critical care. UAB Hospital is the only Level I Trauma Center verified by the American College of Surgeons in the state of Alabama and is a major treatment center in the southeastern U.S. for patients suffering traumatic injury. The Division is engaged in active research related to improving the fields of trauma burn emergency general surgery and surgical critical care. The Division also houses a Surgical Critical Care Fellowship program that is ACGME accredited and accepts four fellows per addition to our focus on patient care we also provide an environment that supports the education of health professionals and encourages advanced research to further medical science. The University of Alabama at Birmingham one of three autonomous institutions within The University of Alabama System is the only four-year public university in the states largest metropolitan area. The University spans 100 blocks in the city center with over 250 buildings providing over 13 million feet of assignable space. For fiscal year 2021-2022 (most recent available) the Universitys economic impact on the Birmingham area exceeds $12.1 billion to the FY2022 UAB received over $715 million in NIH extramural grants and contracts. As of the fall of 2022 the University employed 26000 people had a faculty of 3176 (45% of whom are female) and had a student enrollment of just under 22000 at the undergraduate through doctoral levels. Required Qualifications
The successful candidate will hold an M.D. or M.D./Ph.D. and will be an outstanding leader and highly skilled widely recognized in the field with a strong track record. Candidate should have substantial professional work experience in one or more areas of research teaching and/or service.
