Job Summary

The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant will be working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team within the UT Southwestern division at Childrens Health in Dallas/Plano to provide comprehensive care within our accredited adult congenital heart disease (ACHD) program andparticipatein care of congenital adult heart patients through the cardiothoracic surgical program. Role responsibilities include management of pre/post-operative cardiothoracic patients (congenital adult) in addition to working with young adults with CHD aiding in meeting their medical educational and psychosocial needs with the goal of preparation for an eventual uninterrupted transition to an adult congenital heart disease program. The APP will also work with the ACHD consult team to provide consults to medical and surgical ACHD patients in the inpatient setting. This position willdemonstratea high degree of critical thinking and clinicalexpertisein working with adult congenital heart patients in the outpatient setting. The Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistantis responsible forassessment diagnosis treatment management education consultation and health promotion and care coordination for patients and families with close collaboration with a multidisciplinary team. *New Grad Rate $130000*

Experience and Education

Education

Masters degree in nursing or Higher degree and Documentation of completion of accredited Advanced Practice Education Program and Graduate education and related Texas Board of Nursing authorization must be consistent with clinical practice area and patient population.OR

Masters degree graduate of aMastersor higher Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant(ARC-PA) accredited Physician Assistant program.

Licenses/Certifications

Advanced Practice RN (AGACNP-BC or ACNP-AG) by Texas State Board of Nursing upon hire and authorization for prescriptive authority by the Texas Board of Nursing upon hire.OR

National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) and certified licensed by the Texas Physician Assistant Board (PA-C)upon hire.AND

Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Basic Life Support (BLS) Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certified by the American Heart Association or Red Cross based on the UT Southwestern policy for Advanced Practice Providers upon hire.

Preferred Experience

PriorAdvanced Practice Provider experience in adult cardiology or cardiothoracic surgery adult general medicine hospitalist or internal medicine or pediatric congenital heart defects in a consult role needed.

Job Duties

Diagnoses and treats critically ill patients develops and manages treatment plans and performs advanced procedures.

Develops and implements treatment plans for patients.

Conducts and documents comprehensiveinitialand ongoing physical examinations based on age and diagnosis including psychological status.

Synthesizes data andutilizesevidence to develop implement and evaluate thepatientplan of care including ordering and interpreting laboratory radiology and other diagnostic studies/results.

Demonstratesproficiencyin technical/procedural skills asappropriate basedon specialty and training.

Provides relevant management referrals counseling and education to patients families and caregivers related to current care and preventive health measures.

Facilitates/participates in quality related initiatives through planned group processes workshops seminars and staff meetings to improve clinical and system practice performance.

Collaborates in research projects andprotocols;and routinely applies evidence based best practices to patient care.

Performs other duties as assigned.
