About the team:

GMs Human Interface DesignStudio is hiring aSeniorDesignResearcherto help shape the future of web and app experiences across General Motors and itsmarqueebrands. As part of our teamyoullcollaborate with design product engineering brandand marketing teams to craftwell designed research initiatives point ofviews and frameworksto inspire and informuser-centereddesigns.

As aSeniorDesignResearcheron the web and app teamyou willfocus on strategicprojects that informcomprehensive design guidelines that inform how weleveragebest practices and design patterns across product engineering design and other stakeholders. This role will work closely withcross-functionalpartners to curate organize and proliferate these guidelines. Additionally this role may be assigned to special projectsacross the web and app studioon an as needed basis.

  • Strong designtaste and sensibilities asevidencedby an in-depth understanding of design best practices heuristics and current trends

  • The ability to communicate your point of viewthroughstorytelling in a compelling convincing manner with the broader team.

  • A demonstratedtrack recordowning and leading design research working cross-functionally and thinking strategically to inform research for one or more broad or complex product areas.

  • A strong working knowledge and extensive experience of multiple generative and evaluative research methods how to apply them in a fast-moving organization and experience mentoring or coaching other researchers on the use of these methods.

  • The ability to translate insight into action.You help teams understand customer needs attitudes and behaviors through thoughtful and actionable research. Your work informs both strategic and tactical efforts.

  • Knowledge of the product design process and experience collaborating with other researchers designers content strategists product managers and engineers to help transform complex problems into easy-to-use products. You recommend how to best address our research goals and questions so your partnersdonthave to.

  • The ability to translate research findings into product priorities and strategic narratives new business opportunities within and across different projects.

  • Adaptability anda growth-mindset seeking out and welcoming feedback from senior leaders and managers.

  • Ability to producegreat workin shorttimeframes multi-task across different projects andplatformsand adapt to the ever-changing priorities of the business.

Responsibilities

  • Curate and organize design guidelines interaction principlesandrequirements in a centralizedweb appleveragedby internal GM stakeholderswith the goal ofreducing ambiguity accelerating delivery and increasing consistency across teams.

  • Ensure product guidelinesremaindynamic scalable and aligned with evolving business and customer needs.

  • Designand field mixedmethodsresearch studiesincluding live studies un-moderated studies field studies participatory design heuristic evaluations and remote usability testing to inform and inspire product and design decisions.

  • Enhance your work by actively seeking out research and metrics from internal and external sources to provide comprehensive recommendations that inform design and business strategy.

  • Collaborate seamlessly and flexibly with cross-functional partners to drive best-in-class thinking from all parts of the organization.

  • Work quickly and efficiently without sacrificing quality and knowing how to adapt to the ever-changing priorities of the web and appexperiences.

  • Workon multiple projects concurrently ina very fastpaced environment ensuring that quality deliverables are achieved on time.

  • Stayup-to-datewith the latest industry news and developments.

  • Contribute to the continued evolution of the teams workflows and processes to further improve quality and performance.

  • Haveexceptional communication& presentationskills both written and verbal.

Qualifications

  • 5 or moreyearsexecuting user research to inform interactive product design.

  • Strong portfolio with work samplesshowcasingexpertisein user research.

  • Excellentwritten visual and verbal communicationskills.

  • Knowledge of design thinking methods.

  • Familiarity with common design user experience research tools (e.g.dScout Optimal Workshop Qualtrics User Testing and Figma).

  • Familiarity with data science practices and working closely with data scientists/analysts in the design space (A/B testing data analysis etc.).

  • Proficient in multiple user research methodologies is(contextual inquiry empathy interviews ethnography/observational research heuristic evaluation and expert reviews usability testing; surveys card sorting/tree testing - information architecture focus groups competitive evaluation SUS testing).

  • Proficient in all aspects of study planning/fielding/analysis/synthesis/socialization of key findings (i.e. team consultation recruitingmethodologyand metrics development analysis reporting results socialization of key findings etc.).

  • Ability to work collaboratively.

  • Automotive experiencestronglypreferred.

Compensation

The compensation information is a good faith estimate only. It is based on what a successful applicant might be paidin accordance withapplicable state laws. The compensation may not be representative for positionslocatedoutside of New York Colorado California or Washington.

  • The salary range for this role is:($124200 - $165300). The actual base salary a successful candidate will be offered within this range will vary based on factors relevant to the position.

  • Bonus Potential: An incentivepayprogram offers payouts based on company performance job level and individual performance.
