Job Summary

Post: Swimming Instructor

Responsible to:The Principal/Designated Line Manager

Job Purpose To deliver a swimming programme to pupils and/or Teachers in accordance with established school child protection and health and safety regulations.

Main duties and responsibilities

To organise swimming lessons and monitor assess and evaluate all pupils /groups to ensure strategies are appropriate to meet individual needs of SEN pupils.

To implement emergency procedures working as a team with lifeguards evacuating the pool in case of fire or other significant incidents.

Responsible for making sure that the health and safety policy is put in place fully within the swimming pools day-to-day activities.

Carry out ongoing assessments of the general health and safety of the premises report incidents or hazards which could lead to injury.

Awareness of use of pool area staff area and changing rooms to ensure a safe environment. Ensure areas are cleaned to a high standard daily and are maintained throughout the school day.

Ensure safe entry and exit of pupils into and out of pool.

Comply with school policies and procedures including child protection and health and safety regulations.

Report any concerns relating to outside users to the nominated senior member of staff.

To know school health and safety policies and practice including implementation of the Normal Pool Operational Procedures and Emergency Action Procedures.

Ensure all pool users adhere to safety rules and regulations.

Follow school policies including safeguarding procedures and ensure training is kept up to date.

Know how to operate poolside hoist and make sure all users are trained in its use.

To liaise closely with the PE Coordinator in Fleming Fulton School and outside schools.

To prevent accidents and provide adequate control of Health & Safety risk arising from work activities.

Must have undertaken and successfully completed training courses provided by either the Amateur Swimming Association (ASA) or the Swimming Teachers Association (STA).
