The Joint Intelligence and Security Division (JISD) has two main missions: to provide strategic intelligence to NATO HQ decision makers and to protect NATOs personnel information and physical assets. JISDs Intelligence pillar comprised of both military and civilian personnel is responsible for ensuring the situational awareness of the North Atlantic Council (NAC) the Military Committee (MC) and the senior-level decision-makers on strategic issues of concern. Its functional areas address intelligence analysis and production intelligence policy and intelligence capability development. JISDs Security pillar is responsible for the overall coordination of NATO security among member Nations NATO civil and military bodies as well as International Organizations and partner countries with which NATO cooperates. It is also responsible for the security of the NATO Headquarters (HQ) its personnel information physical assets and for the protection of the Secretary General.
Within JISDs Security pillar the NATO Office of Security (NOS) is responsible for the overall coordination of NATO security among diverse NATO bodies and personnel abroad or at the Headquarters (HQ) and other partnering International Organisations. Within the NOS the mission of the Protective Security & Emergency Service Branch (PSESB) is to ensure the security and safety of the NATO HQ its people infrastructure and information.
The Security Agent works as part of a team carrying out security duties connected with the protection (personnel infrastructure and information) of the NATO HQ Brussels or any other assigned location. The position requires flexibility to work in a shift system outside of normal working hours including weekends holidays and nights sometimes at short notice and to be deployed abroad on missions as and when required.
2. QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
The incumbent must:
have a good general education equivalent to higher secondary level;
have at least 3 years experience as a member of a security or police force (military or civilian) national military or equivalent in a multi-cultural organisation;
be experienced in the use of firearms and less-lethal force equipment;
possess good physical condition to enable them to intervene in emergency situations and be able to pass annual physical tests and annual medical tests; and
possess the following minimum levels of NATOs official languages (English/French): V (Advanced) in one; II (Elementary) in the other.
The following would be considered an advantage:
Relevant security training and certifications including a valid first-aid certificate and knowledge of defensive and emergency response procedures (e.g. Explosive Ordnance Reconnaissance (EOR) armed tactical intervention fire-fighting Chemical Biological Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) crowd control and self-defense techniques);
Experience in operational security environments including experience working in or with a Security Operations Center (SOC); and
Experience in diplomatic or international settings with demonstrated ability to engage effectively with senior-level staff.
3. MAIN ACCOUNTABILITIES
Planning and Execution: Ensure successful and timely protective security of the NATO HQ facilities people and information including but not limited to access control intervention patrolling and monitoring the assigned site and security systems. Use force and defensive weapons in compliance with the applicable regulations. Effect general tasks relating to the protection of visiting VIPs and Delegations during high level events. Implement the protection of infrastructure and classified material by conducting prescribed inspections. Ensure that NATO staff members follow the NATO security regulations and establish reports on non-compliance.
Stakeholder Management: Deal tactfully politely and discreetly but firmly to ensure that the necessary security and safety procedures are followed by all staff and visitors on-site.
Expertise Development: Follow in-house training programme as directed by the management including physical trainings like physical fitness and weapon handling such as regular shooting addition pass theoretical and practical trainings such as EOR tactical armed intervention and emergency communications. Follow developments in new equipment missions and techniques.
Information Management: Carry out administrative duties at various security checkpoints related to controlling the admission of persons and goods and in response to incidents or any other unexpected events having an impact upon security.
Perform any other related duty as assigned.
4. INTERRELATIONSHIPS
Reporting line: The incumbent works under the direct supervision of a Senior Agent and/or Inspector.
Interactions: They liaise closely with contractors security staff.

6. CONTRACT
Contract to be offered to the successful applicant (if non-seconded): Definite duration contract of three years duration; possibility of an indefinite duration contract thereafter.
Contract clause applicable:
In accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations the successful candidate will receive a definite duration contract of three years which may be followed by an indefinite duration contract.
If the successful applicant is seconded from the national administration of one of NATOs member States a 3-year definite duration contract will be offered which may be renewed for a further period of up to 3 years subject to the agreement of the national authority concerned. The maximum period of service in the post as a seconded staff member is six years.
Serving staff will be offered a contract in accordance with the NATO Civilian Personnel Regulations.
