Job Summary

SUMMARY:

The Clinical Assistant (Photodynamic Therapy /Prior-Authorization Specialist) is responsible for coordinating preparing and administering photodynamic therapy treatments under the supervision of a licensed provider. This role focuses on providing safe effective and patient-centered care for individuals undergoing PDT for conditions such as actinic keratoses and certain non-melanoma skin cancers. The individual ensures compliance with clinical protocols maintains equipment educates patients and supports overall dermatologic care operations. Photodynamic therapy may involve the application of photosensitizing agents such as Levulan Kerastick (aminolevulinic acid HCl) followed by activation with a light source such as the Blu-U device.

The position will also be responsible for managing all aspects of medication prior authorizations. This role ensures timely approval of dermatologic medications minimizes treatment delays and supports patients in accessing prescribed therapies. This individual serves as a liaison between providers insurance companies pharmacies and patients to facilitate coverage approvals and appeals.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Required:

Current Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential (AAMA or equivalent). Active Basic Life Support (BLS) certification. Minimum 12 years of experience in dermatology or procedural medical setting. Strong knowledge of sterile technique and infection control standards.

Preferred:

Direct experience administering photodynamic therapy. Familiarity with dermatologic EMR systems. Experience with cosmetic dermatology procedures. Excellent patient communication and education skills. High attention to detail and documentation accuracy. Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced clinical environment. Strong organizational and multitasking skills. Compassionate bedside manner

PHYSICAL GUIDELINES:

Physical guidelines include the ability to move traverse position self remain in a stationary position and negotiate steps for up to eight hours per day.
