Senior Domestic Abuse Intervention Officer
Job Summary
In Barnet we are recruiting new positions to enhance our Domestic Abuse services and create a new Barnet Domestic Abuse Support Hub (BDASH). This will increase our capacity for facilitation of Advocacy and Support services for victims and survivors of domestic abuse.
The Senior Domestic Abuse Intervention Officer will motivate nurture and line manage a staff team consisting of IDVAs DA Intervention Officers and support staff to deliver Barnets DA Support Hub (BDASH) work on a daily basis. The post holder will also provide regular professional supervision to team members.
You will assess the level of risk and service to be offered to service users ensuring that the highest priority work is allocated and that the safety and wellbeing of the victims and survivors and their families are secured. This includes making decisions about the immediate safety of vulnerable adults and young people at risk of significant harm.
The post holder will be responsible for receiving assessing allocating reviewing and closing cases and will keep abreast of developments in all the cases covered by the team.
This post is key to developing Barnets model of domestic abuse intervention in line with the Councils Domestic Abuse and Violence Against Women and Girls Strategy.
Interviews will be held 19th 24th March 20206.
You will have:
- A degree level education or relevant professional skills and qualifications commensurate with the needs of effective service delivery i.e. Psychology Mental Health Counselling Social work.
- Level 3 accredited qualification in supporting victims of domestic abuse (e.g. SafeLives IDVA training or equivalent).
- A minimum of 3 years post qualification experience in domestic abuse work.
- Experience in directly undertaking and line-managing case work involving the assessment and management of serious and complex risk involving victims / perpetrators of domestic abuse and their families.
- Have the ability to prioritise risk and be responsible for achieving safe outcomes.
- Have a high level of interpersonal communication and negotiation skills including the ability to deal with complex issues in a sensitive and appropriate manner
- Experience of working with victims and families of domestic abuse gender-based violence risk analysis and management child / adult safeguarding and additional vulnerabilities e.g. mental health substance misuse homelessness
- The ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors within a legislative theoretical best practice and policy framework.
- The ability to liaise with professionals across housing health education police and social care to ensure coordinated support.
