The Senior Engineer delivers integrated engineering solutions that meet customer requirements and improve deal win probability. This role manages critical and complex proposals across the product line provides technical leadership and mentoring to globally distributed application engineering teams and proactively identifies scope schedule and technical risks driving winning solutions through effective stakeholder influence.
Job Description
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Own the technical content of proposals for GEV Generator configuration working with the Commercial Operations and Design Engineering teams to secure new orders.
- Be responsible to coordinate the timely evaluation of customer requirements typically via review of the customer or EPC provided request for proposal (RFP) to ensure proper selection of Generator scope of supply items.
- Be responsible to evaluate and develop comments and exceptions to the RFP identifying how the GEV equipment is compliant or where GEV equipment does not fully meet the customer specification.
- Identify customer requested special requirements and develop strategies with engineering/sourcing teams that provide competitive solutions to these requirements with 100% timeliness to business need.
- Be responsible for the design integration and optimization of plant electrical systems (including HV/MV/LV components SLD switchgear transformers cables auxiliary systems) for tender projects ensuring compliance with codes standards and customer needs.
- Coordinate strategies with Engineering Product Finance Commercial Operations and Product Line Leadership. Participate in the R process and maintain a close alignment with Proposal.
- Lead the interactions with Regional Customer Application Engineering Value Solution Leader Product Line Product Engineering Execution Engineering Generator Application Engineering Technical Leader/Subject Matter Experts and work collaborative to deliver quality proposals.
- Define proposal strategy related with generator and associated equipment on complex and large projects.
- Establish and provide technical training and development for the Generator Application Engineering team.
- Work closely with cross-functional team on the introduction of new NPI features and products to increase Generator product competitiveness.
- Be a technical mentor to less experienced engineer(s).
- Partner with global subject matter experts on the process tools & methods improvement to drive quality and productivity across global Generator Application Engineering team.
- Use knowledge and expertise to market winning proposals in anticipation of business product needs.
- Provide technical review comments and consultation to Customers and internal GEV team to influence bid strategy and optimization.
- Lead detailed cost/scope reviews for key deals with support from Costing team as needed.
- Support early influencing effort for aligning customer closer to the Preferred Configuration.
- Utilize and maintain proficiency in advanced electrical engineering configuration and costing tools to support accurate and efficient proposal development.
- Participate as needed in EPDR PCCB ERRM reviews.
- Available for any international travel for supporting the customer clarifications in short notice.
- Support the globally located Application Engineers encourage debates to evaluate all possibilities to grow individual technical knowledge and/or address the challenges faced.
- Ensure adherence to standard-work while helping to establish a lean culture to accelerate Generator Application Engineering team improvement then regularly lead initiatives to improve productivity and quality of Generator Application Engineering processes.
- Stay informed of the latest product processes trends working methods and promote their application internally to be an effective player to achieve the Generator Application Engineering related KPIs.
- Demonstrates in-depth product and process knowledge with complete lifecycle understanding.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor of Science in Engineering or equivalent knowledge/experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in design engineering and/or application engineering in the Power industry.
- Significant experience working with customers on combined cycle power projects.
DESIRED CHARACTERISTICS:
- Sound knowledge of generator product portfolio design of generator and associated equipment for power plants.
- Ability to understand technical requirements for combined cycle plants generator and associated equipment and come up with technical solutions.
- Good experience of generator performance define the best solution for positioning the product competitively.
- Strong oral and written communication skills and interpersonal mentoring and leadership skills.
- Minimum 3 years of prior experience in the tendering and deal strategy for New units or services ITR of gas power business.
- Demonstrated experience driving the Lean initiatives for improved process and establish culture in the team.
