Cybersecurity/Networking Instructor
The Career & Technology Center (CTC) at Fort Osage is accepting applications for a Cybersecurity/Networking Instructor beginning in August of 2026. Our instructors work 183 days per school year from August to the end of May. Each member of our CTC staff receives five additional paid contracted days to set up the classroom and complete career and technical education certification requirements.
Starting salary is $51480 but ranges based on years of experience in the Information Technology field. All CTC teachers start on column E of the certificated salary scale. Each full year of industry experience OR prior teaching experience will be counted on our salary schedule. Stipends for work outside of the school day to guide students in Career and Technical Organizations (Skills USA) are also available. Opportunities to coach robotics or E-Sports are available as well.
Job Qualifications
Required:
- 3 years of work experience in the Information Technology profession
- Current Missouri Career & Technical Education teaching certificate. If the candidate does not hold a current Missouri Career & Technical Education teaching certification certification coursework will need to be completed within three years.
- Current industry-recognized certifications in hardware software and networking or the ability to earn these certifications within the first year of employment
Preferred:
- Associates or Bachelors Degree(s) in Computer Science Information Systems Information Technology Management Information Systems or related field
- Knowledge and experience in Cybersecurity Information Assurance or Information Security
- Current industry recognized certifications in Cisco Certified Network CompTIA A CompTIA Network CompTIA Security Microsoft MTA Network Fundamentals
- Experience with online learning management systems or alternative instructional delivery systems
- Course and program development in networking and/or cybersecurity
Key Tasks:
- Instruction & Training: Deliver engaging classroom and laboratory instruction on topics such as network security risk management incident response and cybersecurity fundamentals.
- Curriculum Development: Create and update lesson plans assignments and hands-on simulation activities that align with industry standards and certification goals (e.g. CompTIA Security).
- Student Assessment: Evaluate student performance through assessments and exams providing feedback to ensure skill acquisition.
- Industry Connection: Collaborate with local industry leaders via advisory committees to ensure curriculum relevance.
- Lab Management: Maintain classroom computers virtual labs and security software in accordance with safety and security protocols.
Description
The Cybersecurity Networking teacher will perform duties related to student success by utilizing classroom and laboratory instruction industry certification preparation work-based learning internships and Career & Technical Student Organizations (CTSOs). Instruction and curriculum are utilized through the Cisco Networking Academy Network and other curriculum resources/initiatives.
Essential Functions
- Administers subject specific assessment and test for the purpose of assessing the level of students competencies.
- Advises parents and/or legal guardians of student progress for the purpose of communicating expectations; students achievements; developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment.
- Assesses student progress towards objectives expectations and/or goals for the purpose of providing feedback to students parents and administration.
- Collaborates with instructional staff other school personnel parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes achieving established classroom objectives in support of the school improvement plan.
- Counsels students for the purpose of improving performance health status problem solving techniques and a variety of personal issues.
- Demonstrates pedagogical approaches that engage learners for the purpose of providing an effective program that addresses individual student requirements.
- Differentiates classroom work for the purpose of providing students with instructional materials that address individualized learning within established lesson plans.
- Directs assistant teachers student teachers instructional assistants volunteers and/or student workers for the purpose of providing an effective classroom program and addressing the needs of individual students.
- Instructs students for the purpose of meeting State and National Standards.
- Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment.
- Monitors students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. field trips classroom IDLH atmospheres etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.
- Participates in a variety of meetings for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to perform functions.
- Prepares a variety of written materials (e.g. grades attendance anecdotal records etc.) for the purpose of documenting student progress and meeting mandated requirements.
- Responds to inquires from a variety of sources (e.g. other teachers parents administrators etc.) for the purpose of resolving issues providing information and/or direction.
- Responds to emergency situations for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.
Other Functions
- Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.
SKILLS are required to perform multiple highly complex technical tasks with a need to periodically upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: applying assessment instruments; operating standard office equipment including use of pertinent software; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; read technical information compose a variety of documents and/or facilitate group discussions; and analyze situations to define issues and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: appropriate codes policies regulations and/or laws; age appropriate activities; lesson plan requirements; stages of child development; and behavioral management strategies.
ABILITY is required to schedule a number of activities meetings and/or events; gather collate and/or classify data; and consider a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to analyze issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data frequently requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: establishing and maintaining constructive relationships; adapting to changing work priorities; maintaining confidentiality; exhibiting tact and patience; and working flexible hours.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working under limited supervision using standardized practices and/or methods; directing other persons within a small work unit; tracking budget expenditures. Utilization of resources from other work units is often required to perform the jobs functions. There is some opportunity to significantly impact the organizations services.
Working Environment
The usual and customary methods of performing the jobs functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting carrying pushing and/or pulling some climbing and balancing frequent stooping kneeling crouching and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 10% sitting 70% walking and 20% standing. The job is performed under some temperature extremes and under conditions with some exposure to risk of injury and/or illness.
