At Johns Hopkins Hospital the department is responsible for providing acute care pharmacy services for a diverse population of medical surgical oncology and pediatric patients with additional services provided within the Johns Hopkins Outpatient Center and affiliated clinics. Within the department there are over 85 acute care and primary care clinical pharmacy specialists as well as 32 general and specialized pharmacy residents.

The Oncology Clinical Pharmacy Specialist in Acute Care Medical Oncology will be responsible for the provision and oversight of pharmacotherapy for adult patients with solid tumor malignancies in the acute care setting. Responsibilities include rounding with a multidisciplinary team assisting with discharge planning and care coordination addressing clinical questions and issues related to patients receiving chemotherapy providing patient education and participating in antimicrobial stewardship activities.

In addition the specialist will rotate coverage of the following responsibilities with other members of the acute care oncology pharmacy specialist team: antimicrobial approval coverage emergency (code/RRT) response chemotherapy order assistance in non-oncology areas and cross-coverage needs for acute care solid tumor and hematologic malignancy teams.

The Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will also provide education to students residents pharmacists and other healthcare practitioners and will serve as a preceptor for pharmacy residents of ASHP-accredited PGY-1 pharmacy practice and PGY-2 specialty practice programs. Additionally the Clinical Pharmacy Specialist will support research and participate as an active member of hospital and departmental committees to assist with formulary management and policy development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current licensure as a pharmacist in the State of Maryland.
  • Graduation from an accredited College of Pharmacy resulting in Pharm. D. degree or B.S. and 1 year of experience required
  • PGY1 residency and PGY2 specialty residency in oncology with experience in hematologic malignancies preferred
  • Board of Pharmacy Specialties (BPS) certification is required within two years of start date
  • Intravenous (IV) Certification (includes aseptic technique and hazardous substance handling) within 90 days upon hire unless exempted by Division Director as beyond the scope of practice
  • BLS certification within 1 year of hire is required

Salary Range: Minimum $59.29/hour - Maximum $97.91/hour. Compensation will be commensurate with equity and experience for roles of similar scope and responsibility. In cases where the range is displayed as a $0 amount salary discussions will occur during candidate screening calls before any subsequent compensation discussion is held between the candidate and any hiring authority.
