The Opportunity

Cordova is seeking an expert Senior Database Administrator to join our clients core infrastructure team. This role is designed for a database polyglotsomeone who possesses deep expertise in traditional enterprise systems like IBM DB2 and SQL Server while also maintaining the agility to manage cloud-native environments in AWS RDS.

Our client is looking for a technical anchor who can ensure the stability performance and security of a diverse database landscape. While the environment is evolving the immediate focus is on optimizing current systems and ensuring high availability across their Linux and Windows platforms.

Core Technical Stack

• Primary: IBM DB2 LUW (Linux Unix Windows) & MS SQL Server (2016 or higher).

• Cloud: AWS RDS (Various engines).

• Wishlist: Experience with Snowflake is considered a significant plus but is not a requirement.

Key Responsibilities

Database Optimization & Performance

• Tuning & Troubleshooting: Lead hands-on performance tuning and query optimization efforts to ensure peak system efficiency.

• Problem Resolution: Identify and resolve complex database bottlenecks and stability issues across cross-functional teams.

Resiliency & Business Continuity

• HADR & Recovery: Design and maintain robust backup/recovery strategies High Availability Disaster Recovery (HADR) and comprehensive DR procedures.

• System Integrity: Manage database security access controls and auditing to meet strict compliance and governance standards.

Infrastructure & Scripting

• Environment Management: Navigate and manage Linux/Unix environments with ease.

• Automation: Utilize shell scripting to automate routine maintenance tasks and improve operational efficiency.

• Collaboration: Work onsite to partner with developers and system engineers ensuring database architecture aligns with application needs.

Candidate Qualifications

Required Expertise

• Senior-Level DBA Experience: Proven track record of managing enterprise-scale databases with high uptime requirements.

• IBM DB2 LUW: Strong experience specifically within the Linux/Unix/Windows landscape.

• MS SQL Server: Deep knowledge of SQL Server 2016 or higher including administration and scaling.

• AWS Proficiency: Practical experience managing database instances within AWS RDS.

Technical Competencies

• Scripting: Proficiency in shell scripting and automated deployment.

• Security Mindset: A solid understanding of database encryption role-based access control and auditing.

• Team Leadership: Ability to collaborate onsite with cross-functional teams and translate technical database needs into business-focused solutions.
