Job Summary

Description

Position: The Native Stewardship Technicians are essential to the effective and efficient operation of the collaborative community forestry program within the 24:1 Initiative. Beyond Housing is currently looking for a Native Stewardship Technician to work closely with our Native Stewardship Lead Forestry & Community Conservation Director and Program Manager and twenty-two small communities in the north St. Louis area to improve the health of community forests and native areas and increase the citizen knowledge understanding and participation in the management of Missouris urban and community forests and native landscaping.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Perform natural area and landscape site preparations including the removal of invasive plants using both hand and power tools and pesticide applications.
  • Maintain and enhance the health of bioretention basins and other native landscapes.
  • Conduct routine care for young trees including watering mulching weed control and pruning.
  • Prepare and manage new native planting sites through mowing herbicide application seeding and other maintenance.
  • Promote awareness and participation in forestry and community conservation programs through community outreach activities.
  • Participate in community events such as trash cleanups tree planting native planting and similar activities.
  • Participate in training and regional events related to native landscaping tree care and other conservation activities as well as workshops related to personal and professional development; including occasional weekend availability.
  • Display a growing aptitude for native plant landscaping landscape maintenance techniques safe pesticide use and other topics associated with this work.
  • Other duties as required.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications:

  • This entry level workforce development position requires a High School Diploma and an interest in serving their community working outdoors and learning new skills.
  • Ability to follow instructions adhere to safety requirements and practice safe work habits in all tasks.
  • Comfort with using tools and equipment that are used in landscaping projects after training; including: mowers string strimmer power equipment chainsaws and brush cutters.
  • Familiarity with the 24:1/Normandy Schools Collaborative.
  • Able to work in a fastchanging environment.
  • Commitment to racial equity with a diverse group of people.
  • Must possess attention to detail.
  • Focus on providing exceptional service to internal and external constituents.
  • Must be able to work in extremely hot or cold temperatures and work on rough terrain.

Salary and Benefits:

  • Full-time salaried position as determined in current Beyond Housing Employee Handbook
  • $18 per hour
