ENGAGEMENT AND HUMAN FACTORS COORDINATOR


The Navy Safety Directorate (NSD) acts on behalf of Fleet Commander (1SLs Senior Safety Manager) to deliver the Navy Command (NC) Safety and Environmental Management System (SEMS) and associated safety culture improvement programme. It incorporates the Inspector of Explosives (Navy) and the Defence Diving Standards Team.

PRIMARY PURPOSE

The primary purpose of the Engagement and Human Factors Coordinator is to support the Navy Safety Engagement (NSE) SO2 in the provision of specialised human factors training across the Navy to enhance safety performance and team dynamics. This involves the planning and trainer allocation for the NSD delivered Maritime Human Factors Facilitator training courses. The role will support the NSE SO2 in the development of a culture where human factors principles are deeply embedded into everyday practices and decision-making processes.

In addition the incumbent will form part of the NSD Engagement Team whose purpose is to provide virtual and in person safety engagement initiatives that directly affect the Navy. This includes ensuring a comprehensive approach to understanding safety issues with a focus on promoting safety awareness and proactive safety measures. The incumbent will help facilitate a collaborative approach to safety engagement and ensure that safety insights are effectively communicated and implemented throughout the Navy to drive continuous improvement.

Overall the role combines the delivery of essential human factors training with active participation in wider safety engagement processes ensuring that safety insights are incorporated at every level for enhanced performance safety and organisational learning.

Although primarily based in HMS Excellent the incumbent will be expected to travel to Navy Units across the UK.

SECONDARY PURPOSE

  • To assist with the transition from NLIMS to MySafety occurrence reporting system including the delivery of MySafety training to Navy Units both ashore and afloat.
  • Promote the education and awareness of MySafety as a replacement for NLIMS.
  • Assist in the delivery of Risk Assessment training to Navy personnel.

Engagement and Human Factors Coordinator is:

  • Directly accountable to Navy Safety Performance and Insights SO1
  • Under the functional control of Navy Safety Engagement SO2
