AECOM is actively seeking a Water/Wastewater Project Manager to support projects across Northern California. This role will lead the planning design and construction of upgrades and new infrastructure for water and wastewater treatment facilities throughout the region.
This position offers flexibility to be based anywhere in Northern California with regular visits to client project sites.
This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise and project management leadership with a deep understanding of California water regulations and the ability to guide multidisciplinary teams through complex infrastructure programs. The selected candidate will play a key role in delivering sustainable regulatory-compliant solutions while advancing innovative treatment technologies.

Key Responsibilities
- Serve as Project Manager for water and wastewater treatment facility projects across California leading efforts from planning and alternatives analysis through design construction and commissioning.
- Provide strong technical leadership in treatment processes hydraulics nutrient removal biosolids management advanced water purification (DPR/IPR/AWTP) and collection systems.
- Ensure compliance with current and emerging California water quality and environmental regulations.
- Manage multidisciplinary teams (process civil structural mechanical electrical I&C) to deliver high-quality coordinated design solutions.
- Develop project scopes schedules budgets and risk management strategies; monitor performance to ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget.
- Lead client engagement presentations and stakeholder coordination including regulatory agencies and public outreach efforts.
- Support business development activities including proposal preparation interviews and strategic growth initiatives.
- Regularly visit project sites across Northern California to oversee progress and maintain strong client relationships.
Qualifications :
Minimum Requirements
- BA/BS in Civil Engineering (or related engineering field) and 8 years of experience in water and/or wastewater infrastructure projects or demonstrated equivalency of experience and/or education
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience managing large-scale treatment plant projects ($1M).
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in California
- Strong technical background in wastewater treatment processes advanced water recycling nutrient management and regulatory compliance.
- Demonstrated success managing scope schedule and budgets on complex infrastructure projects.
- Active involvement or leadership within industry organizations such as California Water Environment Association Water Environment Federation Water Reuse Association or Bay Area Clean Water Agencies.
- Excellent communication skills with a strong client-focused mindset.
- Ability to work remotely within Northern California with travel to project sites as needed.
