The Commission enforces the New York City Human Rights law by investigating and litigating legal violations and engages in outreach and educational efforts to inform New Yorkers of their rights. The Commission seeks to help New York City become a place where everyone can live work and thrive free from discrimination.
Our work is both reactive investigating and enforcing violations obtaining restitution for victims and ensuring violations do not recur and proactive. Our proactive work includes education and outreach to small businesses to help them grow their businesses while complying with the law as well as engaging in affirmative investigations which may include testing or otherwise identifying patterns of discrimination.
The Commission on Human Rights seeks to hire an Assistant to the Commissioner (Commissioner). As the Assistant to the Commissioner the prospective candidates responsibilities will include but not be limited to the following tasks:
-Managing the Commissioners calendar scheduling internal and external meetings and resolving conflicts with sound judgement.
-Coordinating and attending meetings of the Commissioner and agendas briefing materials and follow-up notes.
-Providing administrative support to the Office of the Chairperson including tracking information maintaining files and preparing memoranda.
-Monitoring the Commissioners and leadership teams calendars.
-Preparing memoranda and agendas for the Commissioner and leadership team.
-Preparing Commissioner for meetings by ensuring that briefing documents are created and supplied for each meeting.
-Coordinating travel arrangements authorizations and reimbursements.
-Processing mail email etc. for the Commissioner including drafting sending and responding to communications;
-Tracking information and deadlines using spreadsheets and other tools;
-Scanning photocopying faxing filing and other administrative tasks;
-Preparing conference rooms and other spaces for meetings; and
-Performing other related responsibilities as required.
SECRETARY TO THE CHAIRPERSON - 10263
Qualifications :
1.A four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and three years of full-time satisfactory secretarial experience including one year as a secretary; or
2. An associate degree from an accredited college with a major in executive secretarial work and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a secretary; or
3. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college with a major in executive secretarial work and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a secretary; or
and/or experience equivalent to 1 2 or 3 above. However all candidates must have a four-year high school diploma or its educational equivalent and one year of full-time satisfactory experience as a secretary.
