Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) contributes to the achievement of the 2030 Agenda through the FAO Strategic Framework by supporting the transformation to more efficient inclusive resilient and sustainable agrifood systems for better production better nutrition a better environment and a better life leaving no one behind.

FAOs commitment to environmental sustainability is integral to our strategic objectives and operations.

The main aim of the FAO country offices which are headed by a FAO Representative is to assist the government to develop policies programmes and projects to achieve food security and to reduce hunger and malnutrition to develop the agricultural fisheries and forestry sectors and to use their environmental and natural resources in a sustainable manner. The FAO Representation in Indonesia is responsible for leading FAOs response to Indonesia priorities by developing promoting and overseeing strategies for addressing food security agriculture and rural development objectives. It ensures a multidisciplinary approach to programmes identifies priority areas of action for the Organization in the country and in collaboration with the Offices Centres and Divisions at regional and headquarters develops promotes and oversees FAOs strategic response to country priorities. It also advises on the incorporation of country priorities into the Organizations Programme of Work and Budget and implements approved programmes and projects in the country monitors the level of programme implementation and draws attention to problems and deficiencies. The FAO Representation in Indonesia serves as the channel of FAOs services to governments and other partners (donors Non-Governmental Organizations Civil Society Organizations research institutions etc.). The FAO representation in Indonesia helps governments to prevent disasters assess damage and assist them in the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the agricultural sector.

The post is located in the FAO Representation in Jakarta Indonesia.


Reporting Lines

The Junior Professional Officer (Climate Change and Food Security) reports to FAO Representative in Indonesia and Temor Leste.


Technical Focus

The Junior Professional Officer assists with the development and implementation of programmes and activities related to resilient food systems climate change adaptation and mitigation food loss and waste resilient water management and support to livelihoods of rural communities.

Key Results

Collection and analysis of information data and statistics and project/meeting services to support programme projects products and services.


Key Functions

Collects and analyses relevant technical social economic environmental institutional and technology related information data and/or statistics to support the delivery of programme projects as well as products and services.

Undertakes analysis provides technical input for plans and reports and edits/revises technical/scientific documents.

Participates in the development of improved work methods tools and systems.

Updates databases and web pages.

Participates in multidisciplinary project/work teams.

Collaborates in the development of training tools and materials and the organization of workshops/seminars etc.

Participates in the organization conduct and follow-up of meetings consultations and conferences the development/production of required materials and the provision of information and assistance to partners.


Specific Functions

Provides technical input in the development of improved work methods strategies tools and systems and ensures alignment with international agendas like the Paris Agreement and - Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Provides data based on relevant analyses to update databases and web pages specially to inform agrfood systems transformation.

Evaluates the impact of projects tracking climate risks to food systems (crops livestock fisheries) and supports the review analysis and produce reports for stakeholders on technologies and methodologies related to the adoption of improved agricultural practices that contribute to food security water management biodiversity conservation climate change and other relevant topics.

Assists to mobilize resources and build the programme around the food systems and climate action component of the National Medium-Term Planning (RPJMN) of the Government of Indonesia UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF) and FAO Country Programme Framework (CPF) 2026-30.

Supports in developing project concept notes and proposals designing investment pipelines and facilitating climate finance for initiatives targeting food security and rural well-being.

Supports the development of evidence-based country-level strategies for food systems transformation integrating climate resilience with nutrition reducing food loss and waste and shifting to sustainable low-emission agriculture.

Supports the liaison with relevant agencies and institutions (UN Government Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) Civil Society Organization etc. and ensures FAO Indonesias active participation on food security related matters including nutrition (Scale Up Nutrition Movement).

Perform any other related duties as required.

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING

Minimum Requirements

Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in relevant area such as natural resources management agriculture or related fields.

Three years of relevant experience in water management for agriculture including technologies such as Conservation Agriculture.

Working knowledge (proficiency - level C) of English and intermediate knowledge (intermediate proficiency - level B) of another FAO official language (Arabic Chinese French Russian or Spanish).
