Job Description Summary:

Under general supervision the Cook plans and prepares meals for Watershed Crew orders needed supplies and cleans kitchen and dining areas.

Job Description:

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Prepares three (3) meals a day during weekdays for a crew of up to ten (10).
  • Plans menus and prepares a food list for weekly supply pick-up.
  • Purchases food and kitchen supplies.
  • Monitors and tracks food and kitchen supply expenditures.
  • Cleans kitchen and dining area including washing dishes pots and pans mopping floors and wiping tables.
  • Performs related duties as required to meet the needs of the city.
  • Knows and complies with all city and department policies and participates in professional trainings and development.

  • Ability to lift and transport heavy kitchenware.
  • Ability to navigate changing circumstances priorities and approaches.
  • Ability to take proper safety precautions to prevent accidents including use of all required safety equipment and following all safety regulations policies procedures and reporting requirements.

  • Skill as an effective communicator. Actively listens to concerns and is open to the ideas of supervisors and colleagues. Communicates tactfully and effectively.
  • Valid Drivers License and ability to maintain an acceptable motor vehicle record.
  • Have and maintain acceptable background information including criminal conviction history

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • No preferred qualifications.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Working towards or completed high school diploma or GED.
  • Three (3) months experience cooking for a group planning meals and purchasing food and kitchen supplies.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND REQUIREMENTS

  • Physical and Mental Effort: Ability to perform physical work in a high-altitude indoor and outdoor environment with exposure to a variety of weather conditions and requiring frequent standing walking and kneeling for extended periods of time. Upper body strength to lift up to 25 pounds on a daily basis. Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively in person. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to prepare food. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate kitchen equipment and manual and power tools. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes which permits the employee to work in a kitchen and outdoor environment.
  • Work Environment: Works in a high-altitude indoor and outdoor environment with an exposure to a variety of weather conditions. Employee must live on-site in employer-provided accommodations at Silver Lake Watershed Monday through Friday or as otherwise negotiated. Silver Lake Watershed is 13 miles from Nederland CO which is the nearest town. Employee sleeps in private room in bunkhouse and has access to private bathroom in bunkhouse. Employee works an 8 hour shift each day. Employee carpools between Boulder and Silver Lake Watershed in a city vehicle at the start and end of the work week. During non-working hours employee must comply with city rules regulations and policies while on-site.
  • Machines and Equipment Used: Kitchen equipment manual and power tools pickup truck two-way radio and phone.
