What Youll Do
The Welding Technical Specialist will be responsible for providing central office and field support to the Projects Engineering group existing facilities operations construction and maintenance activities. Project support includes but is not limited to; providing boots-on-ground support at supplier facilities by traveling to and conducting supplier reviews to ensure compliance to contractually specified welding requirements assisting CNS Y-12 with receiving weldments meeting both applicable code and contract requirements supplier presentations discussions field walkdowns presentations drawing and document reviews participation in designs ranging from scope definition feasibility and conceptual studies and preliminary/detailed designs. The Welding Technical Specialist writes welding requirements for procurement documents welding brazing and bonding procedures in compliance with applicable code requirements. The Welding Technical Specialist also solves problems at supplier facilities and with designing and maintaining plant facilities and processes. The candidate will be responsible for training site personnel from engineering maintenance and construction on the welding requirements criteria and compliance documents applicable for performing work activities.
The Welding Technical Specialist also reviews design output documents including Submittal Tracking Items for a respective Project scope for welding technical data and compliance with national codes and standards and company approved procedures and policies and they may draft and provide assistance in the execution of Installation Change Requests (ICRs) Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs) and retraining should a nonconformance or required process improvement be identified.
The Welding Technical Specialist reviews on-site work packages involving welding to ensure that design output is complete and correct and establishes hold points for the fabrication and inspection of welds that satisfy the code specifications and procedure requirements. The Welding Technical Specialist must have extensive documented technical knowledge and understanding of AWS Welding codes ASME B31 and ASME Section IX Welding codes. The Welding Technical Specialist will have knowledge and hands-on application in the SMAW GMAW FCAW and GTAW processes weld size calculations weld quality and non-destructive examination methods.

Minimum Job Requirements
- Bachelors degree: Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Masters degree: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience.
- OR 10 years of relevant experience may be considered
- American Welding Society Certified Welding Inspector Certification or able to attain within one (1) year from hire date.
- Ability to pass a Jaeger J1 eye exam.

- Extensive documented technical knowledge and understanding of respective welding technical standards principles theories concepts and techniques for AWS Welding codes ASME B31 and ASME Section IX Welding codes and ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to welding.

- 2 years of experience in a leadership supervisory or team lead role.
- Experience working as a welding engineer under an NQA-1 quality system.
- B.S. degree with Welding Engineering/Welding Engineering Technology concentration from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited program with 8 years of documented and proven positive results in the Welding field including hands-on welding
- MS in Engineering /Physical science with 8 years of documented and proven positive results in the Welding field including hands-on welding experience.
- PhD in Engineering /Physical science 8 years of documented and proven positive results in the Welding field including hands-on welding experience.
- A Professional Engineering License (PE)
